sarveṣu khalu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ sarvado bhavān |

iti; so'pareṇa samayena kundakumudahimarajatasitābhravarṇaṃ saptasujātasupratiṣṭhitacaraṇatalamairāvaṇavilāsagāminaṃ paramasvābhāvyalakṣaṇālaṅkṛtapuṇyanidarśanaṃ rājavardhanaṃ nāma gajavaramabhiruhya parituṣṭabhṛtyamitrasevakānuyātrikaiḥ candra iva nakṣatragaṇaiḥ parivṛtaḥ saṃprāpte vasantakālasamaye saṃpuṣpiteṣu pādapeṣu haṃsakrauñcamayūraśukaśārikākokilajīvañjīvavakanirghoṣite vanaṣaṇḍe udyānabhūmiṃ niryayau; atha kecitpratyarthikaprayuktā viprāstvaritatvaritaṃ viśvantaraṃ kumāramabhigamya ūcuḥ: jayatu bhavān kṣatriyakumāraḥ iti; āha ca

evamuktaśca bodhisatvastasmādapi gajavarāllaghu laghveva avatīrya hṛṣṭatuṣṭapramuditamanāstebhyastaṃ gajavaramupadarśayannuvāca
yathā mayā gajastyakto viprebhyaḥ parayā mudā |
tathāhaṃ tribhavaṃ tyaktvā spṛśeyaṃ bodhimuttamām ||
śuśrāva ca rājā viśvāmitraḥ: putreṇa ca tebhyo viśvantareṇa rājyavardhano nāma gajavaraḥ pratyarthikaprayuktebhyo dattaḥ iti; (a 468 ) śrutvā ca punaḥ rājñā visvāmitreṇa kopakupitena viśvantaraḥ kumāraḥ āhūyoktaḥ: gaccha kumāra na te madviṣaye vastavyamiti; tato viśvantaraḥ kumāraḥ pitrā parityaktaḥ cintayāmāsa: bodhāya mayā kṛtavyavasāyena sarvalokānugrahārthaṃ baddhasannāhena gajo'sau tyaktaḥ
tadgṛhe vartamānena dānaṃ deyaṃ yathābalam |
tapovanaṃ saṃśritya kartavyo niyamaḥ paraḥ ||
tadahaṃ gṛhamutsṛjya prayāsyāmi tapovanam |
vaktuṃ na tūtsahe vākyaṃ na dāsyāmīti yācitaḥ || iti
athaivaṃ kṛtamatirbodhisatvo bhāryāyā mādryāḥ sakāśamabhigamya etadvistareṇa nivedayāmāsa; tataḥ mādrī sahaśravaṇādeva (i 122) priyaviprayogāśaṅkitahṛdayā kṛtakarapuṭā bodhisatvamuvāca: āryaputra yadyevamahamapi tapovanaṃ yāsyāmi iti; na śakyaṃ mayā āryaputraviyuktayā muhūrtamapi prāṇān dhārayituṃ; kutaḥ
gaganamiva candrahīnaṃ sasyavihīnā bhavedyathā pṛthivī |
nalinīva jalavihīnā bhartṛvihīnā bhavettathā nārī || iti
bodhisatva uvāca: avaśyamāvayorante viyogena bhavitavyam, eṣa lokasvabhāvaḥ; tvaṃ ca pravarānnapānaśayanāsanasaṃvasanopacitā paramasukumāraśarīrā; tapovane ca tṛṇaparṇopacitāyāṃ bhūmau svaptavyaṃ; mūlaphalāni cāhāraḥ; darbhopalakaṇṭakacitāyāṃ mahyāṃ vicaritavyam; abhīkṣṇamupavāsamupavasitavyaṃ; sarvajanasyātmā upadarśayitavyaḥ; sarvaprayatnenātithayaḥ pūjayitavyāḥ; tatrāpi ca mayā avaśyaṃ yathāśaktyā dānaṃ deyaṃ; tatra bhavatyā na kiṃcidanutāpaḥ karaṇīyaḥ; tatpunarapi tāvatsaṃpradhāryatāmiti; mādrī kathayati: āryaputra yathāśaktyā ahamāryaputramanuvartiṣye iti; bodhisatvaḥ kathayati: yadyevaṃ smartavyā te iyaṃ pratijñā iti; tato bodhisatvaḥ pitaramupagamya mūrdhnā ca praṇipatyovāca
kṣamasva yattāta mayāparāddhaṃ gajapradānaṃ prati pārthivendra |
eṣa prayāsyāmi purādaraṇyaṃ kośakṣayo nṛpate tavābhūt || iti
tataḥ putraviyogaviklavo rājā baṣpoparudhyamānagadgadakaṇṭha uvāca: putra tiṣṭha nivartyatāṃ dānānmatiriti; bodhisatva uvāca
apyeva parivarteta dharā sadharaṇīdharā |
pradānānna tvahaṃ cittaṃ nivarteya mahīpate ||
ityuktvā prakrāntaḥ; tataḥ putraduhitṛkalatrasahitaḥ śokotkaṇṭhaḥ paurajānapadasahasrairanugamyamānaḥ tasmānnagarānnirjagāma; kaścitpuruṣaḥ taṃ rudanaparidevitaśabdaṃ śrutvā mahājanakāyaṃ ca nagaradvāreṇa nirgacchantaṃ dṛṣṭvā anyataraṃ puruṣamuvāca: bhoḥ puruṣa kiṃkṛto'yaṃ mahājanasya ruditaśabdaḥ iti; sa uvāca: kiṃ bhavānna jānīte (i 123)
asmātpurānnṛpatinā svasutaḥ sudaṃṣṭro
nirvāsyate sthiradhṛtirnirataḥ pradāne |
taṃ prasthitaṃ vanamupetya saputradāraṃ
paurāḥ sametya subhṛśaṃ karuṇaṃ rudanti || iti
tato bodhisatvastasmānnagarānnirgatān paurān yathānyāyyamabhigamyovāca: nivartantu bhavantaḥ; suciramapi hi priyasaṃyogo bhūtvā avaśyamevānte (a 469 ) viprayogāvasānaḥ; vāsavṛkṣo'dhvapratiśrayabhūto hi bandhujanasaṃyogaḥ; avaśyabhāvī priyaviprayogaḥ; kutaḥ
sarveṣu lokeṣvavaśasya jantoḥ priyairviyogo bhavantīti matvā |
kāryā bhavadbhirbhuvi sarvayatnaiḥ sthirāprakampyā ca śamāya buddhiḥ || iti
atha triṃśadyojanātikrāntaṃ bodhisatvamavekṣya anyatamo brāhmaṇaḥ abhigamyovāca: bhoḥ kṣatriyakumāra itastriṃśanmātrairadhiṣṭhānaṃ; tato'haṃ bhavato guṇaśravaṇādāgataḥ; tadarhati bhavānanena rathavareṇa me saphalaṃ śramaṃ kartumiti; tato mādrī saṃjātāmarṣā niṣṭhurābhidhānena taṃ brāhmaṇamuvāca
aho dvijasyāsya sudāruṇā matirvane'pi yo'bhyarthayate nṛpātmajam |
na nāma kāruṇyamihāsya jāyate narendraputre nṛpatiśriyā cyute || iti
bodhisatva uvāca: na khalu na khalu bhavatyā brāhmaṇaḥ paribhāṣaṇīyaḥ; kutaḥ
yadyete na bhaveyurartharucayo mādri pratigrāhakāḥ
bodhiṃ kaḥ samavāpnuyādbhuvi naraḥ sarvapradānādṛte |
ṣaḍbhiḥ pāramitābhiruttamaguṇāḥ saṃbodhisatvāḥ sadā
dānādyābhiravāpnuvanti niyataṃ sarvajñatāmuttamām || iti
tato bodhisatvastamapyaśvarathaṃ pareṇa harṣeṇa tasmai brāhmaṇāya datvā uvāca
anena mātsaryamalapravāhinā rathapradānena mamāstviha dvija | (i 124)
maharṣibhiḥ sadbhiranupravartito nirāsravo dharmamayo mahārathaḥ || iti
tato viśvantaraḥ pramuditahṛdayastamapi rathavaraṃ brāhmaṇāya datvā kṛṣṇājināṃ kumārīṃ skandhe āropya mādrī ca jālinaṃ kumāraṃ tapovanābhimukhau saṃprasthitau; anupūrveṇa ca tapovanamanuprāptau; tato viśvantarastasmiṃstapovane svahṛdayapraritoṣakaraṃ vratamāsthāya vijahāra; yāvadanyatamo brāhmaṇaḥ mādryā<> mūlaphalārthamabhigatāyā<> tapovanādviśvantaramabhigamyovāca: jayatu bhavān kṣatriyakumāraḥ;
upasthāyakahīno'haṃ bhramāmi savadhūjanaḥ |
tadarthaṃ bālakāvetau mama tvaṃ dātumarhasi || iti
evamukto viśvantaro bodhisatvaḥ iṣṭasutaparityāgaṃ prati muhūrtaṃ cintāparo babhūva; tato'sau brāhmaṇo viśvantaraṃ bodhisatvamuvāca: yato'haṃ bhavantamarthaye; tatkimidaṃ vicāryate
bhavān khyātaḥ kṣititale sarvataḥ karuṇātmakaḥ |
yathā śibiḥ śruto nityaṃ tathā tvaṃ kartumarhasi || iti
evamukto bodhisatvastaṃ brāhmaṇamuvāca: bho mahābrāhmaṇa
svajīvitaparityāge na me kācidvicāraṇā |
kiṃ punaḥ svasutatyāge mama syānmatiranyathā ||
api tu mahābrāhmaṇa
parityaktau mayā bālau vanavṛddhau sukhātmakau |
mātṛhīnau kathamimau sthāsyataḥ karuṇātmakau ||
bhūdvaktā ca me kaścitkumārau nirghṛṇo bhṛśam |
bālau tyajati nātmānaṃ sādhu brāhmaṇa māṃ naya || iti
atha sa brāhmaṇo (a 469 ) viśvantaramuvāca: bhoḥ kṣatriyakumāra naitadbhavataḥ pratirūpaṃ mahati rājavaṃśe prasūtasya sarvasyāṃ pṛthivyāṃ khyātayaśasaḥ sarvaprāṇiṣu dayānukrośapravṛttasya dānamānasatkāragandhahastinaḥ (i 125) śramaṇabrāhmaṇātithigurujanapūjakasya kṛpaṇavaṇīpakānāthadaridrajanaparigrāhakasya sarvamanorathaparipūrakasya amoghadarśanasya yatmama vandhyamāgamanaṃ bhavet, mogho mārgaśramaḥ nirarthakaṃ darśanam; aphalā āśā cirakālāśāsito cetasyāśāsakaḥ; tatśighraṃ saṅkkalpaturagasya manorathasya tadvacananāstikyapratyāhatasya me nirvṛttirbhavet; tadarhati bhavān paripūrṇamanorathaṃ māṃ visarjayituṃ kutaḥ

yadi tāvatpradāsyāmi brāhmaṇasya sutadvayam |
prāpsyāmyahaṃ ca mādrī ca duḥkhaṃ putraviyogajam ||
athāsmai na pradāsyāmi bhaviṣyāmi kṣatavrataḥ |
nirāśo brāhmaṇaścāyaṃ gamiṣyati yathāgataḥ ||
kāmaṃ putraviyogārto bhuvi śokaṃ vrajāmyaham |
bhagnapratijño na tveva bhaviṣyāmi kṣatavrataḥ || iti
tato viśvantaro bodhisatvaḥ iṣṭasutaparityāgaṃ prati kṛtaniścaya uvāca: eṣa bho
lokaṃ duḥkhamāharṇave pratibhaye majjantamārtaṃ bhṛśam
pāraṃ tārayituṃ suduṣkaraśatairbadhnāmi mārgaplavam |
ityuktvā vimalāmbupūrṇavadano vaktreṇa nirmanyunā
bālāvaśrujalāmbupūrṇanayanau viprāya tasmai dadau || (i 126)

asya putrapradānasya phalaṃ vipulamāpnuyām |
tārayeyamahaṃ tena lokaṃ saṃsārasāgarāt || iti
dattamātrayośca punastayorbāladārakayoḥ iyaṃ ca vasumatī ṣaḍvikāraṃ cacāla; tatastena bhūmikampena tadvanavāsinastāpasāḥ saṃtrastāḥ anyonyamūcuḥ
kiṃprabhāvanimitto'yaṃ bhūmeḥ kampaḥ sudāruṇaḥ |
jñatavyamiha suvyaktaṃ prabhāvaḥ kasya īdṛśaḥ || iti
tatrānyatamo vṛddhatāpaso vasiṣṭhasagotro nimittajñānakuśalaḥ; sa teṣāmṛṣīṇāmetamarthaṃ nivedayāmāsa
nūnaṃ tapovanaratau hi phalāmbubhakṣau
bālau sutau nayanatuṣṭikarau manojñau |
duḥkhārditasya jagataḥ parimokṣaṇārthaṃ
viśvantarastyajati kampati yena bhūmiḥ || iti
tatastau bāladārakau piturāśayaparityāgabuddhimavagamya karuṇakaruṇaṃ rudantau viśvantarasya pādayornipatya kṛtakarapuṭāvūcatuḥ: prasīda tāta āvāṃ parityākṣīḥ; kvedāniṃ guruvihīnau gamiṣyāvaḥ iti
ambā ca tāta niṣkrāntā tvaṃ ca no dātumarhasi |
yāvattāmapi paśyāvastato dāsyati nau bhavān || iti
tato bodhisatvaḥ snehaviklavaḥ sāśrudurdinanayanaḥ tau bāladārakau (a 470 ) parityajyovāca: putrakau
na me hṛdayamasnigdhaṃ nākṛpā nāpi nairghṛṇam |
sarvalokahitārthaṃ tu tyajāmi guṇadarśanāt || iti
apyevāhaṃ parāṃ bodhimabhigamya śivāṃ svayam |
duḥkhārṇavagataṃ lokaṃ tārayeyaṃ nirāśrayaḥ || iti
tatastau bāladārakau piturāśayaparityāgamavagamya karuṇādīnavilambitākṣaraṃ pādayornipatya kṛtakarapuṭāvūcatuḥ
yadyevaṃ vyavasāyaste vacanādāvayostvayā
vaktavyā jananī tāta kṣantumamba tvamarhasi || iti (i 127)

yannau gurorapakṛtaṃ tvayi bālabhāvāt
yadyapriyaṃ vacanamanyadudāhṛtaṃ |
śuśrūṣaṇaṃ ca paripūritameva na syāt
bālāparādha iti tatkhalu marṣaṇīyam ||
ityuktvā pitaramabhivādya triḥ pradakṣiṇīkṛtya guruvacanalālasau muhurmuhuḥ saṃparivartamānau nayanāmbupariplutākṣakau tasmādāśramādviniścakrāmatuḥ; tato bodhisatvastairatikaruṇairbāladārakavacobhiḥ viklavīkṛtahṛdayo bodhau manaḥ praṇidhāya tapovanaparṇakuṭīṃ praviṣṭaḥ; niṣkrāntamātrayośca bāladārakayoḥ ayaṃ trisahasramahāsahasro lokadhātuḥ ṣaḍvikāraṃ kampitaḥ; anekaiśca devatāsahasraiḥ hāhākṛtamantarikṣaṃ babhūva
aho pradānamāhātmyamaho khalvasya niścayaḥ |
bālāvimau sutau tyaktvā yanna vikriyate manaḥ || iti
tasmiṃśca samaye mādrī mūlaphalānyādāya āśramābhimukhī saṃprasthitā; tena ca mahatā bhūmikampena tvaritamāśramapadaṃ pratasthe; anyatamā devatā siṃharūpadhāriṇī bhūtva mārgamavarudhyāvasthitā, haiva mādrī bodhisattvasya sarvasatvanirmokṣaṇakṛtodyogasya dānapāramitāyāṃ vighnamutpādayiṣyatīti
tato mādrī tāṃ mṛgarājavadhūmuvāca
mṛgarājavadhūvilāsini
kimidaṃ māmuparudhya tiṣṭhasi |
dhruvamasmi yathā pativratā
laghu mārgādapasarpa me tathā ||
api ca
tvamapi mṛgarājapatnī
ahamapi bhāryā narendrasiṃhasya |
dharmeṇa bhavasi bhaginī
mṛgarājñi dadasva me mārgam || (i 128)
ityevamuktā siṃharūpadhāriṇī devatā tasmānmārgādapakrāntā; tato mādrī nimittānyapraśastānīti matvā muhūrtaṃ cintayāmāsa: yathāyamantarīkṣe rudanaśabdaḥ śrūyate, yathā vanavāsināṃ bhūtānāṃ vikrośanaśabdo vyaktamāśramapade akuśalaṃ bhaviṣyati iti; āha ca
yathā sphurati me netraṃ yathā rauti vihaṅgamaḥ |
dhruvaṃ tau bālakau tyaktau yathā me matirutsukā ||
yathāyaṃ pṛthivīkampo vepate hṛdayaṃ ca me |
vyaktau tau bālakau tyaktau yathā kāyaśca sīdati || iti
evamanarthaśatasahasrāṇi cintayantī āsramapadaṃ gatā; praviśya āśramapadaṃ sasaṃbhrāntā nirīkṣate; na paśyati putrakau; tato viklavahṛdayā vepamānā asthānapadānusāraṃ vikalpayati: asmin pradeśe jālinaḥ kumāraḥ sahabhaginyā mṛgapotakair(a 470 ) abhīkṣṇaṃ krīḍitavān; imāni ca tābhyāṃ pāṃsunagarāṇi kṛtāni; imāni ca tayoḥ krīḍanakāni; tau tu na paśyāmi; atha ambā na dṛśyate iti parṇakuṭīṃ praviśya śayitau bhaviṣyataḥ ityevamāśaṅkāparigatahṛdayā sutadarśanalālasā mūlaphalānyekānte upanikṣipya bāṣpāmbupariplutekṣaṇā bhartuḥ pādayornipatya pṛcchati: āryaputra kva gatau bāladārakau iti; viśvantara uvāca
āśayā samabhikrānto brāhmaṇo mama sannidhau |
tasya tau dārakau dattau tvamanujñātumarhasi || iti
athaivamuktā mādrī viṣadigdhaviddheva mṛgī bhūmau nipapāta; jalāśayoddhṛteva matsī pṛthivyāmāvartanaparivartanaṃ karoti sma; hṛtapoteva kurarī karuṇakaruṇaṃ virauti sma; naṣṭavatseva gaurbahuvidhaṃ hambhāravairvilalāpa; āha ca
bālapaṅkajasamānavaktrakau
padmapatrasukumārahastakau |
duḥkhaduḥkhitamadṛṣṭaduḥkhakau
kāṃ gatiṃ mama gatau hi putrakau ||

kṛpaṇaṃ jīvati duḥkhito janaḥ ||
aṅke mama tau vivṛddhakau
mūlapuṣpaphalabhojanātmakau |
kṣāntimārdavagurupriyau sadā
duḥkhitau hi paramaṃ sutau mama ||
jñātimātṛparihīṇakau ca tau
bandhubhiśca sahasā nirākṛtau |
durjanaṃ janamupetya pāpakaṃ
duḥkhitau hi paramaṃ sutau mama ||
kṣuttṛṣāparigatātmakau sadā
kasya tau vaśamupāgamiṣyataḥ |
ārtiduḥkhaparipīḍitau ca tau
preṣyabhāvamupayāsyato dhruvam ||
karma nūnamiha pāpakaṃ mayā
anyajanmani kṛtaṃ sudāruṇam |
prāṇinaḥ priyaśatairviyojitā
yena gauriva viraumyavatsikā ||
yena satyavacanena me sadā
sarvasatvasamatāṃ gataṃ manaḥ |
tena satyavacanena me sutau
dāsabhāvagamanādvimucyatām || iti
tato mādrī tābhyāṃ bāladārakābhyāṃ ye vṛkṣā ropitakāyapālitakāstān kisalayasaṃchannāṇdṛṣṭvā sasaṃbhramā pariṣvajyovāca
bālabālakalaśāvasiktakāḥ
pallavaprapatitāśrubindavaḥ |
cetanā iva rudanti vṛkṣakā
bālakāḥ stanavihīnakā iva ||
punaśca tayorbāladārakayoḥ krīḍanakānāśramavāsino mṛgaśābakān dṛṣṭvā karuṇādīnavilambitākṣaraṃ vacanamuvāca (i 130)
duḥkhametadaparaṃ hyanalpakam
yadbhramanti mṛgaśābakā ime |
yadvayasyaparidarśanotsukāḥ
sthānakeṣu parimārgaṇotsukāḥ
tato yena mārgeṇa tau bāladārakau gatau taṃ mārgamanusarantī tayorbāladārakayoritaścāmutaśca padānyanṛjukāni dṛṣṭvā tīvraduḥkhābhyāhatā punaruvāca (a 471 )
pātyamānau dhruvaṃ nītau yathā padavilambitam |
kvaciddrutagatāvṛttau hānṛśaṃsa dvijottama ||
bāṣpagadgadaniruddhakaṇṭhakau
vepamānarucirādharoṣṭhakau |
tau hi me hariṇapariplutākṣakau
komalaiścaraṇakaiḥ kathaṃ gatau || iti
tato bodhisatvastāṃ tathā paridevanātmikāṃ dṛṣṭvā tābhistābhiḥ śrutibhiranityatāpratisaṃyuktābhiḥ bahuprakāramanusaṃjñāpayannuvāca
na darpānna ca vidveṣānmayā tyaktaṃ sutadvayam |
sarvasatvahitārthaṃ tu tyaktau tau dustyajau sutau ||
ātmaputrakalatraṃ ca tyaktvā paramadustyajam |
prāpnuvanti mahāsatvāḥ śibivadbodhimuttamām || iti
tyāgādhiṣṭhānānmādri putrau tau
tyaktau dustyājau lokanirmokṣaṇārtham |
dadyāṃ svān dārān vāhanaṃ cāpi vittaṃ
sarvaṃ sarvebhyo dātumeṣā matirme || iti
atha mādrī dhairyamālambya cittena bodhisatvamuvāca
na karomyantarāyaṃ te te bhūnmatiranyathā |
māmapīcchasi ceddātuṃ nirviśaṅkaṃ prayaccha mām ||
api tu
yasyārthe svajanān dhīra tyajasi snehaviklavaḥ |
tamarthaṃ prāpnuhi kṣipraṃ tārayan hi bhavājjagat || iti
tataḥ śakro devendraḥ tadatyadbhutamatiduṣkaraṃ ca mādryā bodhisatvasya ca vyavasāyamāgamya tridaśagaṇaparivṛtaḥ upari (i 131) vihāyasā tadāśramapadamupagamya udāreṇāvabhāsena tadvanamavabhāsya gaganatalastha eva bodhisatvamuvāca
yathā mūḍhe loke kumatigrahaparyākulamatau
vibhogāsaktāśaye ca sutapāśairnigadite |
tvameko niḥsaṅgastyajasi tanayān snehajanakān
dhruvaṃ kṣemaṃ śāntaṃ vimalavirajaṃ prāpsyasi padam || iti
tadevaṃ protsāhya bodhisatvaṃ śakro devendraścintayāmāsa: eko'yamupasthāyakavirahitaḥ khedamāpatsyate; yannvimāmasmātprāthayeyamiti; tato bodhisatvasakāśādapakramya brāhmaṇaveṣamāsthāya punarbodhisatvamuvāca
imāṃ sarvānavadyāṅgīmanuraktāṃ pativratām |
saṃprayaccha kulaślāghyāṃ mama bhṛtyārthabhāginīm || iti
tato mādrī saṃjātāmarṣā brāhmaṇamuvāca
nirlajjaścāpi lubdhaśca tvamiha brāhmaṇādhamaḥ |
saddharmaniratāṃ yastvaṃ māmicchasi pativratām || iti
tato viśvantaro bodhisatvaḥ karuṇāparigatahṛdayo mādrīṃ nirīkṣitumārabdhaḥ; atha mādrī viśvantaraṃ bodhisatvamuvāca
na śocāmyahamātmānaṃ nāpekṣā me tathātmani |
yathā tvāmanuśocāmi kathameko bhaviṣyasi || iti
tato bodhisatvastāṃ mādrīmuvāca
ahamiha bhuvi mādri nānuśocyo
parimṛśa padamakṣayaṃ viśokam |
tamimamanusara dvijaṃ viśoko
mṛgaśaraṇe tvahamāśrame'bhyupaimi ||
iti viditvā hṛṣṭatuṣṭapramuditamanāścintayāmāsa
idamasmin vane dānaṃ paścimaṃ me bhaviṣyati
mādrīṃ cemāṃ parityajya bhaviṣyāmyaparigrahaḥ ||
iti viditvā mādrīpāṇau gṛhitvā taṃ brāhmaṇamuvāca
bhāvānuraktaśuśrūṣāṃ sadvṛttāṃ priyavādinīm | (i 132) (a 471 )
mama bhāryāmimāmiṣṭāṃ gṛhāṇa tvaṃ dvijottama || iti
tataḥ patnīṃ sudaṃṣṭrasya tyajato bodhikāṅkṣayā |
ṣaḍvikārā mahī kṛtsnā cacālāmbuni nauryathā ||
tato mādrī bāṣpoparuddhyamānagadgadakaṇṭhā brāhmaṇavaśamāgatā patiputraduhitṛrahitā idamabhravīt
kīdṛṅmayā kṛtaṃ karma anāryaṃ pūrvajanmasu |
naṣṭavatseva gauryena viraumi vijane vane ||
tataḥ śakro devendro brāhmaṇaveṣamantardhāpya svaveṣeṇa sthitvā mādrīmuvāca
na brāhmaṇo'smi subhage na ca mānuṣo'smi
śakrastvahaṃ hyasuranāśakaraḥ surendraḥ |
prīto'smyanena vinayena tavottamena
tadbrūhi kiṃ varamihecchasi matsakāśāt || iti
tato mādrī tadvacanajanitasaumanasyā śakraṃ praṇamyovāca
mama putrau sahasrākṣa dāsabhāvādvimocaya |
pitāmahasakāśaṃ ca prāpaya tridaśeśvara || iti
tathetyuktvā mahendraḥ punarāśramapadaṃ praviśya bodhisatvamupajagmivān; mādrīṃ ca vāmena pāṇinā gṛhitvā bodhisatvamuvāca
ahaṃ mādrīmimāṃ tubhyaṃ dadāmi paricārikām |
na ca te kasyaciddeyā nyāsadroho hi garhitaḥ || iti
tato śakro devendrastaṃ bāladārakaparigrahītāraṃ tathā vyāmohayāmāsa yathā anyanagaraśaṅkayā tadeva nagaramupetya tau bāladārakau vikretumārabdhaḥ; yāvadamātyairdṛṣṭvā rājñe niveditam
etau putrasya te putrau brāhmaṇo'smin purottame |
jālinaṃ caiva kṛṣṇāṃ ca vikrīṇīte sudāruṇaḥ || iti
etacchrutvā bhrāntacittaḥ sa rājā
prāha kṣipraṃ darśaya tvaṃ kumārau |
nāryaścakruḥ krośamantaḥpurasthāḥ
paurā rājñaḥ kṣiprameyuḥ samīpam ||
yāvadanyenāmātyena rājñaḥ sakāśamupanītau (i 133)
pautrau nirīkṣya sa nṛpo'bhimukhopanītau
kṣīṇasvarau kṛśatanū maladigdhagātrau |
siṃhāsanātkṣititalaṃ sahasā papāta
paurā vicukruśuramātyagaṇāḥ striyaśca ||
tato rājā amātyānāmantrayate
vane'pi vasato dāneṣvabhirataṃ manaḥ |
tamihānayata kṣipraṃ patnyā sārdhaṃ sulocanam || iti
tataḥ śakro devendro bodhisatvamabhinamasya svabhavanamupajagāma; paścācca rājani viśvāmitre abhyatīte brāhmaṇāmātyapaurajānapadaiḥ sārdhaṃ tadāśramapadaṃ gatvā bodhisatvaṃ yācitvā svapuramānīya rājye pratiṣṭhāpitavān; tato viśvantaro rājā sarvaṃdado babhūva; sa śraṃnabrāhmaṇavanīpakasuhṛtsambandhibāndhavānujīvijaneṣu anekaprakārāṇi dānāni datvā puṇyāni kṛtvā gāthāṃ bhāṣate
bodhiṃ prārthayamānena dānaṃ deyaṃ viśārada |
kṣatriye brāhmaṇe vaiśye śūdre caṇḍālapukkaśe ||
hiraṇyaṃ ca suvarṇaṃ ca gavāśvamaṇikuṇḍalam ||
dadyātsaṃpannaśīlebhyo dāsakarmakaraṃ tathā ||
sutadāraparityāgaṃ kṛtvā muktena cetasā |
prāpnuvanti narāḥ śuddhimasmin loke paratra ca || iti
yadā viśvāmitreṇa rājñā viśvantaranimittaṃ jujjukāya brāhmaṇāya prabhūtaṃ dhanaṃ dattaṃ tadāsau vistīrṇavibhavo jātaḥ; tasya (a 472 ) suhṛtsambandhibāndhavā mitrāṇi cāgamya kathayanti: ca kācittava śrīrasau viśvantaraṃ kumāramāgamya iti; sa kathayati: kiṃ mama viśvantareṇa kṛtamuttamavarṇaprasūto'haṃ; dakṣiṇīyo lokasya; yena mama bhogā upanamanti iti
bhagavānāha: kiṃ manyadhve bhikṣavaḥ? yo'sau viśvantaro nāma rājakumāraḥ ahameva saḥ tena kālena tena samayena; yo'sau jujjukaḥ eṣa evāsau devadattaḥ tena kālena tena samayena; tadāpyeṣa akṛtajñaḥ akṛtavedī; etarhyapyeṣa akṛtajña akṛtavedī; tasmāttarhi bhikṣavaḥ evaṃ śikṣitavyaṃ yatkṛtajñā bhaviṣyāmaḥ kṛtavedinaḥ svalpamapi kṛtaṃ na nāśyayiṣyāmaḥ; prāgeva prabhūtaṃ; ityevaṃ vo bhikṣavaḥ śikṣitavyam (i 134)
