This Sanskrit edition of the Moksopaya. It is a large philosophical text dealing with “the science of liberation”. Similar to the Yoga-vasistha in content, the Mokshopaya-shastra was likely its predecessor, said to contain 30,000 shlokas (metrical verses). One of the core philosophies of the texts teaches the non-existence of cognitive objects; while holding such a view leads to an attitude of dispassion towards worldly matters.

तत्रास्यां दृष्टौ वर्तमानायामीश्वरादागत्य जीवो यथा जायते यया च मुच्यते तच्छृणु । ब्रह्मणो मनश्शक्तिरुत्थिता पुरस्स्थितामाकाशशक्तिमवलम्ब्य तत्रस्थपवनानुपातिनी घनसङ्कल्पत्वं गच्छति । ततः पुनःप्राप्तभूततन्मात्रपञ्चकतामेत्यान्तःकरणनाम्नी सती सूक्ष्मा प्रकृतिर्भूत्वा गगनपवनसम्पर्कात्प्रालेयरूपतामुपेत्य शाल्योषधिषु विशति । प्राणिनो गर्भतां वा गच्छति । जायते तस्मात् । ततः पुरुषः सम्पद्यते । तेन तु पुरुषेण जातमात्रेणैव बाल्यात्प्रभृति विद्याग्रहणं कर्तव्यं । गुरवोऽनुगन्तव्याः । ततः क्रमात्पुंसस्तवेव चमत्कृतिर्जायते । त्वत्सदृशचित्तवृत्तेः पुरुषस्य हेयोपादेयविचार उत्पद्यते ॥ १४ ॥
