upāyena vakṣyamāṇena vairāgyābhyāsena kāmabhogayorvikṣiptaṃ pramāṇaviparyayavikalpasmṛtīnāmanyatamayāpi vṛttyā pariṇataṃ mano nigṛhṇīyānnirundhyādātmanyevetyarthaḥ | kāmabhogayoriti cintyamānāvasthābhujyamānāvasthābhedena dvivacanam | tathā līyate'sminniti layaḥ suṣuptaṃ tasmin suprasannamāyāsavarjitamapi mano nigṛhṇīyādeva | suprasannaṃ cetkuto nigṛhyate ? tatrāha yathā kāmo viṣayagocarapramāṇādivṛttyutpādanena samādhivirodhī tathā layo'pi nidrākhyavṛttyutpādanena samādhivirodhī | sarvavṛttinirodho hi samādhiḥ | ataḥ kāmādikṛtavikṣepādiva śramādikṛtalayādapi mano niroddhavyamityarthaḥ |

evaṃ vairāgyabhāvanātattvadarśanābhyāṃ viṣayebhyo nivartyamānaṃ cittaṃ yadi dainandinalayābhyāsavaśāllayābhimukhaṃ bhavettadā nidrāśeṣājīrṇabahvaśanaśramāṇāṃ layakāraṇānāṃ nirodhena cittaṃ samyakprabodhayedutthānaprayatnena | yadi punarevaṃ prabodhyamānaṃ dainandinaprabodhābhyāsavaśātkāmabhogayorvikṣiptaṃ syāttadā vairāgyabhāvanayā tattvasākṣātkāreṇa ca punaḥ śamayet | evaṃ punaḥ punarabhyasyato layātsambodhitaṃ viṣayebhyaśca vyāvartitam | nāpi samaprāptamantarālāvasthaṃ cittaṃ stabdhībhūtaṃ, sakaṣāyaṃ

tataśca nedaṃ samāhitamityavagamya layavikṣepābhyāmiva kaṣāyādapi cittaṃ nirundhyāt | tataśca layavikṣepakaṣāyeṣu parihṛteṣu pariśeṣāccittena samaṃ brahma prāpyate | tacca samaprāptaṃ cittaṃ kaṣāyalayabhrāntyā na cālayet, viṣayābhimukhaṃ na kuryāt | kintu dhṛtigṛhītayā buddhyā layakaṣāyaprāptervivicya tasyāmeva samaprāptāvatiyatnena sthāpayet | tatra samādhau paramasukhavyañjake'pi sukhaṃ nāsvādayet | etāvantaṃ kālamahaṃ sukhīti sukhāsvādarūpāṃ vṛttiṃ na kuryātsamādhibhaṅgaprasaṅgātiti prāgeva kṛtavyākhyānam | prajñayā yadupalabhyate sukhaṃ tadapy

athavā prajñayā savikalpasukhākāravṛttirūpayā saha saṅgaṃ parityajet | na tu svarūpasukhamapi nirvṛttikena cittena nānubhavetsvabhāvaprāptasya tasya vārayitumaśakyatvāt | evaṃ sarvato nivartya niścalaṃ prayatnavaśena kṛtaṃ cittaṃ svabhāvacāñcalyādviṣayābhimukhatayā niścaradbahirnirgacchadekīkuryātprayatnataḥ, nirodhaprayatnena same brahmaṇyekatāṃ nayet |

samaprāptaṃ cittaṃ kīdṛśam ? ityucyate yadā na līyate nāpi stabdhībhavati tāmasatvasāmyena layaśabdenaiva stabdhībhāvasyopalakṣaṇāt | na ca vikṣipyate punaḥ, na śabdādyākāravṛttimanubhavati | nāpi sukhamāsvādayati, rājasatvasāmyena sukhāsvādasyāpi vikṣepaśabdenopalakṣaṇāt | pūrvaṃ bhedanirdeśastu pṛthakprayatnakaraṇāya | evaṃ layakaṣāyābhyāṃ vikṣepasukhāsvādābhyāṃ ca rahitamaniṅganamiṅganaṃ calanaṃ savātapradīpavallayābhimukhyarūpaṃ tadrahitaṃ nivātapradīpakalpam | anābhāsaṃ na kenacidviṣayākāreṇābhāsata ityetat | kaṣāyasukhāsvādayorubhayāntarbhāva ukta eva | yadaivaṃ
doṣacatuṣṭayarahitaṃ cittaṃ bhavati tadā taccittaṃ brahma niṣpannaṃ samaṃ brahma prāptaṃ bhavatītyarthaḥ |

etādṛśaśca yogaḥ śrutyā pratipāditaḥ

yadā pañcāvatiṣṭhante jñānāni manasā saha |
buddhiśca na viceṣṭeta tāmāhuḥ paramāṃ gatim ||
tāṃ yogamiti manyante sthirāmindriyadhāraṇām |
apramattastadā bhavati yogo hi prabhavāpyayau || [KaṭhU 2.3.11-2] iti |

etanmūlakameva ca yogaścittavṛttinirodhaḥ [YogaS 1.2] iti sūtram | tasmādyuktaṃ tatastato niyamyaitadātmanyevaṃ vaśaṃ nayediti ||27||
