The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Grihya-sutra with the commentaries of Haradatta (called the Anakula-vritti) and Sudarshana (called the Grihyatatparyadarshana-vyakhya). The Apastamba Grihyasutra is a short treatise on Vedic rituals which, together with the Hiranyakeshin-grihya-sutra, belongs to the Taittiriya School of the Black Yajur-Veda. Haradatta’s Anākulā-vṛtti (sūtra 1.10)

pitṛdaivatyakarmāṇyaparapakṣe kāryāṇi /
"māsiśrāddhasyāparapakṣe"(ā.pa.gṛ.21.1).' mādhyāḥ paurṇamāsyā upariṣṭādyaṣṭaketi'; (āpa.gṛ.21-10) tatrāparapakṣa upadiṣṭaḥ /
idaṃ tu niyamanaṃ yāni gayāśrāddhādīni deśaviśeṣeṇa pātraviśeṣeṇa kāmyānyupadiṣṭāni asmābhiśca parigṛhītānipārvaṇe nātonyānītyatra teṣavaparapakṣaprāptyartha ca /
tena pūrvapakṣe mṛtasyāparapakṣa ekoddiṣṭaṃ kartavyaṃ na tvekādaśe'hani /

anuṣṭhānañcai(tve) kādaśe'hani /
māsiśrāddhasyāparapakṣavidheḥ prayojanaṃ tatraiva vakṣyāmaḥ /

ayaṃ cāparapakṣavidhiḥ kṛtsnasyodagayanāderapavādo na pūrvasmādudagvā yathāyogam /
udāharaṇaṃ paristaraṇādi /
tadidaṃ prācīnāvītyāditrayamavidheyam /
śrauteṣveva paribhāṣitatvāt;ucyate-'yajñopavītinā pradakṣiṇaṃ''tathāpavarga'ityetāḥ paribhāṣā aviśeṣeṇātra prakaraṇe paṭhitāḥ sāmānyaparibhāṣāyā bādhitatvāt pitryeṣvapi prāpnuvanti tadvādhārthamidam /

atra ca yeṣāṃ pitryāṇāṃ svātantryeṇa svakole pravṛttiḥ teṣāmevāyaṃ prācīnāvītavidhiḥ natvanyatrāṅgatvena prayujyamānānām /
tena daiveṣi mānuṣeṣu ca karmasu"pitaraḥ pitāmahā"ityatra yajñopavītameva bhavati /

apara āha -"tasmādabhyātānā vaiśvadevā"(tai.saṃ.3-4-6). iti darśanāt"pitaraḥ pitāmahā"ityasyāpi pitryatvādeva prācīnāvītasyāprasaṅgaḥ iti /
tathā"aparapakṣe pitryāṇī"tyasminnadhikāre (1) abhihitaṃ prācīnāvītamaviśeṣeṇa pitrye karmāṇi sāṅge pravartate /
tena pitrye ājyabhāgante karmaṇi jayādau ca prācīnāvītameva bhavati //

ayaṃ ca vidhissvatantrapitryoddeśena /
(2) aṅgānāṃ tu sahaprayojyānāṃ mukhyakālatvena kālavidhyapekṣābhāvāt /
eṣa ca na pūrvapakṣamātrāpavādaḥ /
kiṃ tarhi?sarvāpavādārtha vidhyantaram /
āḥ!kuta etadjñāyate ? /
'na ca naktaṃ śrāddhaṃ kurvīta'(āpa.dha.2-17-23) iti jñāpanāt /
(3) yadi hyayaṃ pūrvapakṣamātrāpavādassyāt, tata udagayanādīnāṃ trayāṇāmapavādābhāvādrātrāvaprasakteḥ pratiṣedho na syāt, (4) asti ca pratiṣedhaḥ, ityato jñāyate vidhyantarameveti /
prayojanaṃ tvaviśeṣeṇa dakṣiṇāyane'pyaparapakṣe'hni kāmyaśrāddhāni kartavyānīti /
māsiśrāddhaṃ tu'māsi māsi kāryam'(āpa. dharma.2-16-4) iti (5) vīpsayā dakṣiṇāyane'pi siddhameva /

nanvasmin sati'māsiśrāddhasyāparapakṣe'(āpa.gṛ.21-1.) iti vidhiḥ kimarthaḥ? /
niyamārthaḥ /
tathā hi-aparapakṣa eva māsiśrāddham, na punardaaivānmānuṣādvā(1) vighātādaparapakṣe'tikrānte"sarvo'parapakṣaḥ pūrṇamāsasya"itayādivat pūrvapakṣe'pi kartavyam /
kintu prārabdhasmārtanityakarmavyāpattau prāyaścittameva /
tacca'bhūrbhuvassuvassvāhā'ityeko homassarvaprāyaścittākhyaḥ /
'yadyavijñātā sarvavyāpadvā bhūrbhuvassvariti sarvā anudrutyāhavanīya eva juhuyāt'(ai.brā 24-34). iti bahvṛcaśruteḥ /
ayaṃ cātraupāsane, naimittikaikavidhiparaśrutisthāhavanīyaśabdasya nyāyato nimittavatkarmārtāgnimātrapradarśanārtatvāt /
upavāsaśca kāryaḥ /

vedoditānāṃ nityānāṃ karmaṇāṃ samatikrame /

snātakavratalope ca prāyaścittamabhojanam //

(2) ātaminoḥ prāṇāyāmaśca,'niyamātikrame cānyasmin'(āpa.dha.2-12-18.) iti vacanāt /
etoṣāṃ samuccayaṃ eva na vikalpaḥ,'ekasmin doṣe śrūyamāṇāni prāyaścittāni samabhyuccīyeran'(āpa.śrau. 9-1-2) iti darśitatvāt /

prasaṅgādanyeṣāṃ lope'pi prāyaścittamucyate /
evamanyeṣāmapi prārabdhānāṃ prāyascittaṃ pākayajñānāṃ vyāpattau, gaumakāle'pyatikrānte /

gauṇakāle ti sa4vaprāyaścittapūrvakaṃ te'nuṣṭheyāḥ /
aupāsanahomasya tu bahukālātikrame aṣṭabhyo homakālebhyaḥ pūrva pratyekaṃ sarvaprāyaścittapūrvakaṃ (3) atātā homāḥ kartavyāḥ /
atropavāsaprāṇāyāmayorācārī na dṛśyate /
ūrdhva tu dhāryamāṇe'pyagnau'anugato manthyaḥ'(āpa.gṛ.5-17)

ityādyagnyutpattiprāyaścitte bhavataḥ,'caturātramahūyamāno'gnirlaukikassampadyate'iti vacanāt /
yadi punarālasyādinotsannāgnireva cirakālaṃ varteta tadā smṛtyantaratastatkālānurūpaṃ kṛcchrādikaṃ homadravyadānaṃ ca veditavyam /
svakālaṃ anārabdhānāṃ tu pākayajñānāṃ sarvaprāyaścittaṃ hutvā'rambhaḥ kartavyaḥ //


(4) kecit- pākayajñānāṃ (5) svakāleṣvanārambhe ārabdhānāṃ cākaraṇe gauṇakālātikrame ca caturgṛhītenājyena sagraheṇa saptahotrā juhvati /
yadyapi'saptahotrā yajñavibhraṣṭaṃ yājayeccaturgṛhātenājyena'(āpa.śrau.14-14-11) iti śrauto darvīhomaḥ yajñavibhreṣe yuktaḥ, tathāpi'eṣā anāhitāgneriṣṭiryaccaturhotāraḥ'(āpa.śrau.14-13-2.) ityupakramya'āhitāgnestān pratiyādubhayoritarān'(āpa.śrau.14-15-5)

ityupasaṃhārāt, gārhye vibhreṣe āhatya prāyaścittavidhānenāpekṣitatvācca tadvibhreṣe'pi yukta evoti /
tattu kapardisvāminoktam //


jātakarmādīnāṃ tu (1) svakālātikrame sarvaprāyaścittapūrvakaṃ tadanuṣṭhānam /
karmāṅgānāṃ tu lope sarvaprāyaścittaṃ prāṇāyāmaśca /
anuṣṭhānaṃ cārādupakārakāṇāmākarmasamāpteḥ /
dravyasaṃskārāṇāṃ tu dravyopayogāt pūrvameva sambhavatām /
pākayajñeṣvāgnihotrika(2) vidhau copanayane cāṅgavyāpattau'muvassvāhā'iti tatta(3) tkarmāṅgāgnau homaḥ /
'anājñātam'iti tisṛbhiśca homo japo /
bhuvaranājñātavidhyarthayorvikalpo ,'brāhmaṇāvekṣo vidhiḥ'(āpa.gṛ.2-10) iti'śrutitassaṃskāraḥ'(āpa.dharma.2-1-09) iti śrautaprāyaścittaprāptyarthatvāt /
nanu-'bhavaḥ'; iti dakṣiṇāgnau'anājñātaṃ'iti cāhavanīye /
satyam, iha tayoragnyorabhāvāt naimittikānāmapyaṅgatvenetarāṅgavat pradhānāgnau homasya yuktatvācca //


(4) kecit sarveṣu gārhyakarmasu tadaṅgeṣu ca bhreṣe'anuktamanyato grāhyam'iti nyāyna gṛhyāntaroktāni prāyaścittānyāhuḥ, taccintyam //


alaṃ prāsaṅgīkena /
prakṛtamucyate /
yattu'aparapakṣasyāparāhṇaśśreyāni'(āpa.dharma.2-16-50) iti, tadaparāhṇavidhānārthamanuvādaḥ, yathā pātnīvate'sarvatrānuvaṣaṭkāro dvidaivatyartugrahādityasāvitrapātnīvatavarjam'(āpa.śrau.12-14-2) ityanuvaṭkārābhāve prāpte'pi'api vopāṃśvanuvaṣaṭkuryāt"(āpa.śrau.13-14-9,10) iti /
'sarveṣvevāparapakṣasyāhassu'(āpa.dharma.2-16-7) iti tvaharviśeṣaṇārtham /

aparapakṣasyāhassveva māsiśrāddhaṃ, na pūrvapakṣasyāhassu vikalapenāpyabhimatamiti /
itarathā āśaucādatikrānte'parapakṣe-

daivāt pitṝṇāṃ śrāddhe tu āśaucaṃ jāyate yadi /

āśauce'tha vyatīte vai tebhyaśśrāddhaṃ pradīyate //


iti smṛtyantarāt kadācit pūrvapakṣasyāhassvapi vikalpenedaṃ syāt /
nityaśrāddhaṃ tu'evaṃ saṃvatsaram'(āpa.dha.2-18-13) iti

atyanta(4) saṃyoge dvitīyābalāt pūrvapakṣe'pi //7//


pitryāṇi kāryāṇīti śeṣaḥ /
idaṃtu vāsovinyāsabhedavidhānaṃ svatantrāsvatantrasarvapitryārtham,'prācīnāvītinā pitryāṇi'ityanena vākyena aviśeṣāvagamāt, uddeśye pitryamātre labdhe adhikāprakṛta(1) svātantryavivakṣāyāṃ vākyabhedāpatteḥ, aṅgeṣvapi prācīnāvīte vidheye'aparapakṣe pitryāṇi'itivadanapekṣitatvābhāvācca /
tena yāni svatantrāṇi yathā pradhānāhutayaḥ, yāni cāsvatantrāṇi yathā dvitāyanimārjanādīni, tāni sarvāṇyeva prācīnāvītinā kāryāṇi /
itthameva'yajñopavītinā'ityapi /
tena pitryāṅgānyapi daivānyāghārādīni yajñopavītinaiva /
itarāṅgānāṃ tu pātraprayogādīnāṃ tattatpradhānavadeva //


kecit- aṅgānāṃ pradhānadharmatā nyāyyeti pitryāṅgāni daivānyapi prācīnāvītinā, daivāṅgāni pitryāṇyati yajñopavītineti, taccintyaṃme // 8 //

pitryeṣu kārya iti śeṣaḥ /
atra'prācīnāvītī'(āpa.pari.2.16)ityādiparibhāṣayā eṣāṃ trayāṇāmapi siddhatvāt
