The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Grihya-sutra with the commentaries of Haradatta (called the Anakula-vritti) and Sudarshana (called the Grihyatatparyadarshana-vyakhya). The Apastamba Grihyasutra is a short treatise on Vedic rituals which, together with the Hiranyakeshin-grihya-sutra, belongs to the Taittiriya School of the Black Yajur-Veda. yadidaṃ baliharaṇaṃ vāgyatassaṃbhārānādāyetyādyapratīkṣamāṇastūṣṇīmityetadantaṃ (āpa.gṛ.18-10-12) tadasmāt karmaṇa ūrdhvamāmārgaśīrṣyāḥ parvaṇaścaturṣu māseṣu yadasīyasyā nnaviśeṣasya saktūnāṃ vāharahaḥ kartavyam /
yadyadannamaśanārtha gṛhe kriyate tadaśanīyam /
agārapariṣṭanādistu sthālīpākasyaiva śeṣaḥ, na baleḥ /
tenaitadiha vidhīyat /
yadyapyāñjanādīnyalaṅkaraṇārthani nābhyavahāryāṇi tathāpi"tāsūttarayā saktūn nivapati /
tūṣṇīṃ saṃpuṣkāḥ dhānā"ityādi sarveṣāṃ tulyā cedanā /
mantre ca tulyavadabhidhānaṃ tebhya imaṃ baliṃ hariṣyāmi iti /
tasmāt saptāpi balidravyāṇi /
teṣāṃ sarveṣāmayaṃ pratyāmnāyo nāditastrayāṇāmeva /
apāṃ tu na bhavati, codanābhedāt /
upaninīya pariṣicyeti /
evaṃśabdaḥ kālavidhānārtaḥ /
yathātrāstamite baliharaṇaṃ, evaṃmata ūrdhvamapyastamite kartavyamiti /

etaṃsabhdastu dharmavidhānārtaḥ /
etaṃ balimevaṃdharmakamiti /
nacānyatareṇaivobhayasiddhiḥ /
yadi hyevaśabda ubhayārthassyāt rātrau pārvaṇaḥ prāpnoti /
katham?rātrāvāgneyasthālīpāka utpannaḥ evamataūrdhvamiti pārvaṇaḥ /
tathā yadyetacchabda ubhayārthassyāt "parisaṃvatsarādupatiṣṭhadbhyaḥ etatkārya"miti rātrāvapacitiḥ prāpnoti;samāvartane rātrāvutpannatvādapaciteḥ /
tasmādubhayārta- mubhayaṃ vaktayam /
evaṃ tāvat rātrau sakṛdvaliharaṇamiti /

apara āha-ubhayoḥ kālayoḥ baliharaṇamiti /
katham?yadaśanīyasyeti vacanāt yadaśanīyasyeti vacanāt yadyadannamaśanārtha yadā kriyate tasya tasya tadā kartavyamiti hi tasyārthaḥ /
dvayośca kālayoraśanam;kālayorbhojanamiti vacanāt /
tataśca yadā gṛhamedhino yadaśanīyasya homā balayaścettyutpannasya vaiśvadevasya dvayoḥ kālayoḥ pravṛttiḥ evamasyāpi /
spaṣṭañcaitadāśvalāyanake"sarpadevajenabhyassvā- heti sāyaṃ prātarbaliṃ haredā pratyavarohaṇāt (āśva.2-1-14) iti /
asmin pakṣa evaṃśabda uttarārthaḥ /
ata ūrdhvamiti vacanama- smin prathame baliharaṇe dravyavikalpomā vijñāyīti /
āmārgaśīrṣyā iti baliharaṇasyāvasānakālopadeśaḥ /
yadyevaṃ nārtha etena /

Sudarśana’s Gṛhyatātparyadarśana-vyākhyā (sūtra 19.3)

ata ūrdhva asmācchrāvaṇyāṃ kṛtātkarmaṇa ūrdhvam /
āmārgaśīrṣyāḥ yāvanmārgaśīrṣī yāvadutsarjanaṃ tāvadityarthaḥ /

etamanantaracoditaṃ saktūnāṃ sambandhinaṃ balim /
evaṃ'sambhārānādāya vāgyataḥ prācīmudīcīṃ vā'ityādi'apratīkṣastūṣṇīmetya'; (āpa.gṛ.18-10....12) ityevamantetikartavyatākamaharahaḥ sāyaṅkāle baliṃ haret /
yadaśanīyasya sambandhinamiti vāśabdasya vyavahitena sambandhaḥ, yadaśanīyasyetyasya padasya dhānādīnāṃ nivṛttyarthatvāt /
agārapariṣecanādikaṃ tu sthālīpākasyaiva śeṣo na baliharaṇasya, bhinnadeśatvāt /

kecit-ubhayoḥ kālayorbaliharaṇam, yadaśanīyasyeti vacanāt, vaiśvadevavat aśanasya ca'kālayorbojanam'(āpa.dha.2-1-20 itivacanenobhayakālikatvāt,'sāyaṃ prātarbaliṃ haredā pratyavarohaṇāt'(āśva2-1-14) ityāśvalāyanavacanācca /
tathā etamitiśabdasyaiva apekṣitakṛtsnadharmaprāpakatvāt evamiti śabda uttarasūtrārtha iti /
tanna;samabhivyāhṛtasakalapadānāṃ sambhūyaikārtha pratyayavirodhāt

evaṃśabdaścātrānuvartate /
yathedaṃ śrāvaṇyāṃ karma kataṃ evaṃ mārgaśīrṣyāmapīti /
tena'pārvaṇavadājyabhāgānta'ityādeḥ dhānāḥ kumārān prāśayantī'tyantasya kṛtsnasya kalpasyātra pravṛttiḥ /
etāvannānāmārgaśīrṣyai paurṇamāsyai svāheti sthālīpākasya homaḥ /
śrāvaṇyāṃ paurṇamāsyāṃ iti prakṛte punaḥ paurṇamāsyāmityucyate jñāpanārtham

tatpaurṇamāsīgrahaṇamasmin prakaraṇe nānuvartate iti /
tena pūrvasūtre āmārgaśīrṣyā iti karmāvadhitvena na gṛhyate /
yattatra coditamanena sūtreṇa na kālaḥ /
tena mārgaśīrṣyā paurṇamāsyāmahani yadaśanīyasya baliharaṇaṃ bhavati /
kālavācitve tu na prāpnoti yadi ca maryādāyāmākāraḥ /
atha tbhividhau, astamite'piyadaśanīyaṃ tasyaiva prāpnoti /
iṣyate cāstamite sthālīpākakarmaṇi saptarbhirdravyairba- liharaṇamahani ca yadaśanīyasya /

tasmāt pūrvatra karmaṇyapadeśo yathā syāt, kālasya vyapadeśo bhūditi paurṇamāsyāmiti viśeṣaṇam /
evañca yadaśanīyavacanenobhayoḥ kālayorbaliharaṇamiti yaduktaṃ tadeva sthitaṃ bhavati /
astamita ittyucyate-ahanimā bhūditi /

evamityasya dharmaprāpaṇe kālavidhau cobhayatra śaktirnāstītyuktam //3//
