Chapter 95 - Conversion of the brahmin Deva

tena khalu samayena kapilavastuni devo nāma brāhmaṇaḥ prativasatyāḍhyo mahādhano mahābhogo bhagavataḥ purāṇo gṛhapatissakhā: asau pareṇa samayena jñātikṣayaṃ <dhanakṣayamṛddhikṣayaṃ gataḥ; yadā bhagavatā> ṣaṭtriṃśadbhūtakoṭiparivāraṃ māraṃ vidrāvya anuttaraṃ jñānamadhigataṃ, tadā devo brāhmaṇaḥ patnyā sārdhaṃ senāyanīgrāmakamanuprāptaḥ; devena brāhmaṇena śrutaṃ bhagavatā anuttaraṃ jñānamadhigatam; śrutvā ca tasyaitadabhavat: kathaṃ punarahaṃ bhagavantaṃ piṇḍakena pratipādayeyamiti; sa patnīmāmantrayate: bhadre bhagavatā anuttaraṃ jñānamadhigatam; sa ca bhagavāṃścakravartikule jātaḥ; sa idānīṃ senāyanīgrāmakaṃ piṇḍapātaṃ <carati> ............................................................ kathayati: (a 397 ) āryaputra tathā bhavatu; devena brāhmaṇasakāśe patnībandhakaṃ sthāpayitvā pañcakārṣāpaṇa ..................................................... devena brāhmaṇena gṛhapatisakāśādalaṅkāraṃ yācitvā patnyā anupradattaḥ; atha devo brāhmaṇaḥ sapatnīkaḥ suciṃ praṇītaṃ khādanīyabhojanīyaṃ samudānīya yena bhagavāṃstenopasaṃkrāntaḥ; upasaṃkramya bhagavantamidamavocat; adhivāsayatu me bhagavān śvo'ntargṛhe bhaktena; adhivāsayati bhagavān devasya brāhmaṇasya tūṣṇīṃbhāvena; atha bhagavān yena devasya brāhmaṇasya niveṣanaṃ (152) tenopasaṃkrāntaḥ; upasaṃkramya prajñapta evāsane nyaṣīdat; atha devo brāhmaṇaḥ sukhopaniṣaṇṇaṃ bhagavantaṃ viditvā sapatnī kaḥ śucinā praṇītena khādanīyabhojanīyena svahastaṃ tarpayataḥ saṃpravārayataḥ; anekaparyāyeṇa śucinā praṇītena khādanīyabhojanīyena svahastaṃ saṃtarpayitvā saṃpravārayitvā bhagavantaṃ bhuktavantaṃ viditvā dhautahastamapanītapātraṃ nīcataramāsanaṃ gṛhītvā bhagavataḥ purastānniṣaṇṇau dharmaśravaṇāya; atha bhagavān devasya brāhmanasya daksiṇādeśanāṃ kṛtvā prakrāntaḥ iti; devo brāhmaṇastacchrutvā duḥkhī durmanāḥ saṃvṛttaḥ; aṭavīṃ saṃprasthitaḥ kuto'hamalaṅkāraṃ dāsyāmīti; nānyatrātmānam ..................................................... tadā paśyati tamalaṅkāram; sa taṃ gṛhītvā gṛhamāgataḥ; deva paśyāmīti <patnī> duḥkhadaurmanasyāhatā gṛhaṃ viśodhayati suvarṇakalaśaṃ dīptimantaṃ paśyati yathāpitadbuddhasya buddhānubhāvena devatānāṃ ca devatānubhāvena; devastāṃ pṛcchati: bhadre kimetad? iti; kathayati: āryaputra mayā suvarṇakalaśo dṛṣṭaḥ; so'pi kathayati: bhadre, mayāpi so'laṃkāro dṛṣṭaḥ; tāvatyarthaṃ bhagavati prasādajātau tathā cābhiprasannau;
tato bhagavatā tādṛśī caturāyasatyasaṃprativedhikī dharmedeśanā kṛtā; yathā devena brāhmaṇena sapatnīkena viṃśatiśikharasamudgataṃ dṛṣṭiśailaṃ jñānavajreṇa bhitvā śrotraāpattiphalaṃ sākṣātkṛtam
