Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. दृष्टं दुर्योधनेदं ते यथा पार्थेन धीमता ।
जलस्य धारा जनिता शीतस्यामृतगन्धिनः ।
एतस्य कर्ता लोकेऽस्मिन्नान्यः कश्चन विद्यते ॥ ३७ ॥

dṛṣṭaṃ duryodhanedaṃ te yathā pārthena dhīmatā |
jalasya dhārā janitā śītasyāmṛtagandhinaḥ |
etasya kartā loke'sminnānyaḥ kaścana vidyate || 37 ||
