Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अहो बत महद्दुःखं यत्र पाण्डुसुतान्रणे ।
नातरद्रभसः कर्णो दैवं नूनं परायणम् ।
अहो द्यूतस्य निष्ठेयं घोरा संप्रति वर्तते ॥ १९ ॥

nātaradrabhasaḥ karṇo daivaṃ nūnaṃ parāyaṇam |
