samantāt-sarvataḥ, sūryaprabhābhirahani taptaṃ-kvathitam, candrakiraṇairniśi śītīkṛtam| tathā, agastyodayena nirviṣīkṛtam| tathā, śuci-pavitram| varṣāsu hyaśucītyuktam| tacca haṃsopabhogyatayā haṃsavadatinairmalyāddhaṃsodakaṃ nāma tantrakārairāyurvedaśāstre saṃjñitam| tathā, nirmalaṃ-akaluṣam| tathā, malānvātapittaśleṣmaṇo, jayatīti malajit| agastyodayanirviṣaśabdena viśeṣaṇenaitat pratipādayati, yathā-yadantarikṣaprabhavaṃ sarastaḍāgādisthaṃ jalaṃ, tadeva prāyeṇa śaradyevaṃguṇaṃ vedyam| na kūpādiprabhavam, tasya sadā nirviṣatvāt| tathā cāntarikṣaprabhavamevaṃ paṭhyate (hṛ. sū.

haṃsodakaṃ vidhatte-taptamiti| kiraṇaraśmigrahaṇaṃ sākṣātsambandhārtham| samantādapi-sarveṣvapi pradeśeṣu| ahorātragrahaṇaṃ sarvadā sambandhārtham| sarvaṃ dinaṃ sūryeṇa tāpitaṃ, sarvāṃ ca rātriṃ śītāṃśunā śītalīkṛtam| śītāṃśuśabdena rātridṛśyaṃ jyotiścakramupalakṣyate, yaugikatvāducyate | agastyo-jyotirviśeṣaḥ| śuci-svata eva nirmalam, tacca śaradi| yadāha suśrutaḥ (sū. a. 45/8)- "śaradi sarvaṃ prasannatvāt" iti| tasmācchāradameva haṃsodakam| tathā''aha carakaḥ
