The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Grihya-sutra with the commentaries of Haradatta (called the Anakula-vritti) and Sudarshana (called the Grihyatatparyadarshana-vyakhya). The Apastamba Grihyasutra is a short treatise on Vedic rituals which, together with the Hiranyakeshin-grihya-sutra, belongs to the Taittiriya School of the Black Yajur-Veda. namo rudrāya yadgṛhyamāpastambena nirmitam /kriyate haradattena tasya vṛttiranākulā //
dviprakārāṇi karmāṇi-śrutilakṣamāni ācāralakṣamāni ca /
tatra śrutilakṣaṇāni vyākhyātāni /
athedānīṃ yāni karmāṇi vivāhaprabhṛtīni ācārāt prayogāt gṛhyante jñāyante, na pratyakṣaśruteḥ, tāni vyākhyāsyāmaḥ /
kiṃ prayojanaṃ sūtrasya?smārtānāṃ karmaṇāṃ adhikāraḥ /
tena
udagayanādiniyamaḥ."sarvatra svayaṃ prajvalite'gnā"(āpa.gṛ.8-5) vityevamādīni ca gārhyeṣveva karmasu bhavanti, na śrauteṣi /

śrautopadeśānantaraṃ smārtopadeśaṃ kariṣyāmīti vadan tadapekṣāmasya darśayati /

aupāsanahomo, vaiśvadevaṃ, pārvaṇa, maṣṭakā, māsiśrāddhaṃ, sarpabaliṃ, rīśānabaliriti /
sapta ca haviryajñasaṃsthāḥ-agnihotraṃ, darśapūrṇamāsā, vāgrayaṇaṃ, cāturmāsyāni, nirūḍhapaśubandhas, sautrāmaṇiḥ, piṇḍapitṛyajñādayo darvīhomā iti /
(5)saptaiva ca somasaṃsthāḥ-agniṣṭomo,'tyāgniṣṭoma, ukthya, ṣyoḍaśī, vājapeyo,'tirātro'ptoryāma iti /
ete ca nityāḥ niyatapradikālīnajīvananimittakā ityarthaḥ /
kuta ete ca nityāḥ?'jāyamāno vai brāhmaṇastribhiṛṇavā jāyate brahmacaryeṇarṣibhyo yajñena'devebhyaḥ prajayā pitṛbhyaḥ,(tai.saṃ.6-3-10) ityatra'yajñena'ityakavacanaṃ'yajñaṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ'(āpa.pari.1-1) itivat jātyabhiprāyaṃ manyamānasya bhagavato vasiṣṭhasya'naiyamikaṃhyetadṛṇatrayaṃ saṃstutam'(va.saṃ.11-47) iti
vacanena eṣāmavaśyānuṣṭheyatvāvagamāt /
tathā'sāyaṃ prātarata ūrdhvam'(āpa.gṛ.7-19.)'yāvajjīvamagnihotraṃ juhoti,''vasante jyotiṣṭomena yajeta'(āpa.śrau.10-2-5) ityevamādibhiḥ,'aharahaḥ pravṛjyante'(tai.brā.2-1-3.), ardhamāser'dhamāse pravṛjyate'(tai.bāra.3-2-8),'punarbhakṣyo'sya somapīthobhavati'; (tai.brā.3-2-3). ityevamādibhiḥ, (1) karmaṇyorambhanyāyena ca prayogābhyāsāvagamāt /
tathaiva somasyeṣaṭyādeścākaraṇe aindrāgnaśuvibhraṣṭeṣṭyādi prāyaścittavidhānena pratyavāyotpattyavagamāt /
tathaiva'sa etāṃśṭaturhotṝnātmasparaṇānapaśyat'(tai.brā.2-3-7) iti agnihotrādisomāntānāmātmaniṣkrayaṇārthatvāvagamāt /
na tu sauryādivat(2) kovalaṃ kāmyāḥ uktahetūnāṃ sarveṣāmanupapattaiḥ /
yata evaite nityāṃ ata eva'anāhitāgnitāsteyam'(manu.11-65). ityanāhitāgnitāyā upapātakagaṇe pāṭhaḥ /
ata eva nityādhikāravidhiprayuktamādhānam /
kāmyasiddhistu nitayānuṣṭānenaiva guṇaphalādhikāravidhayā prāsaṅgikī bhavatu /
mīmāṃsakamatyā tu yadyapi kāmyādhikāravidhigrayuktamādhānaṃ, kāmyānuṣṭhānaina ca nityasiddhiḥ (3) prasaṅgāt;tathāpi kalpasūtrakāraṇāṃ prakriyayā sādhikāratvena (4)prayuktisaktiyogyatayā anyato'prayuktau nityādhikāravidhiprayuktirapyupapannā /
yathā(5) vivaraṇamate svavidhiprayuktamadhyayanamiti /
tasmāt mandamadhyamotkṛṣṭabuddhibhi (6) ssarvairapi traivarṇikairete'vaśyaṃ kartavyāḥ /
te ca nānāsādhanakā nānāśākhāntarasthāṅgakā mīmāṃsānyāyasahasranirdhāryavacanavyaktikā mandabuddhibhiridānīntanair(7) durśānā- ajñāne cānuṣṭhātumaśaktāḥ kathañcana pratyaveyuritu kṛpāviṣṭacetaskatayā sūtrakāreṇa'yajñaṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ'(āpa.pari.1-1) iti paribhāṣāyāmekaviṃśatiyajñān sāmānyataḥ (8)
saṃkṣepataśca vyākhāyāya tāvanmātreṇānuṣṭhānānupayogāt'athāto darśapūrṇamāsau'(āpa.śrau.1-1) ityārabhya śrautā haviryajñāssomasaṃsthāḥ (9)
kṣāmavatyādayo naimittikāḥ prasaṅgāt kāmyāśca(10) viśeṣato vyākhyātāḥ //
atha anantaram /
ācārāt -āṅ ityupasargasya avicchedo vyāptirabhipretor'thaḥ /
cāraḥ caraṇaṃ ka4masu pravartanam,'piṇḍapitṛyajñena caranti'(āpa.śrau.1-7-2) ityādau darśanāt /
tena yatsarveṣu deśeṣu sarveṣu koleṣu ca sarvaistraividyavṛddhaiśśiṣṭairlaukikaprayojanābhāve'pyavicchinnamavi(1)gānenādriyamāṇaṃ, ataeva mūlāntarāsambhāvāt svamūlabhūtavedānumāneliṅgabhūtaṃ karmasu pravartanaṃ sa ācāraḥ /
tasmādācārāt anumitairvedaiḥ yāni aupāsanahomādīni pākayajñaśabdavācyāni pāṇigrahaṇādīni ca yaśeṣvadhikāriṣyamāṇadehasaṃskārārthāni karmāṇi gṛhyante jñāyante kartavyatvena tāni vyākhyāsyāma iti śeṣaḥ /
yata eva ācārānumeyavedāvagamyāni gārhyaaṇi karmāṇi ata eva tebhyaḥ prathamamanuṣṭheyebhyo'pi pūrva śrautānāṃ vyākhāyānaṃ kṛtam;pratyaśrutivihiteṣu jijñāsāyāḥ prathamabhāvitvāt, anumitavedārthajijñāsāyā(2) ścaramabhāvitvāt, jijñāsāśāntrthatvācca vyākhyānasyeti /
atra ca ācārādityācāreṇopalakṣya gārhyaaṇi karmāṇi vadannevaṃ jñāpayati- iha sākṣādanibaddhānāmapi yeṣāṃ'jamadagnīnāṃ tu pañcāvattam'; (āpa.śrau.2-18-2) ityādīnāṃ padārthānāmācāraḥ kṛtsnadeśādivyāptassyāt te'pi vedamūlā evoti /
kṛtsnadeśādivyāptiścādhikapaunaruktyādibhiśśraute darśanena gṛhyāntarairrdhamaśāstraiḥ nyāyabalena sampradāyavidvākhyātṛvacanairvā niścetavyā /
idaṃ cādhikārasūtram /
yānyaṅgānyuttaratra'purastādudagvopakramaḥ'(āpa.gṛ1-5) ityādīni vakṣyante teṣāṃ gārhyakarmārthatāṃ, śrautānāṃ sārvatrikāṇāmapi svato'nidamarthatāṃ ca jñāpayitum /
etacca(3) samānopadeśātideśayorabhāvāt //
kecit-karmāṇītyetadgṛhye vakṣyamāṇānyasmaccaraṇārthānyeva, na tudharmaśabdādhikṛtadharmaśāstroktavatsarvārtāni /
tathā śrautānantaraṃ gārhyaadhikāraḥ śrautoktasārvatrikadharmāmāmiha prāptyartha iti //
