The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 1.51

तस्मात्प्रमाणं न वयो न कालः कश्चित्क्वचिच्छ्रैष्ठ्यमुपैति लोके ।
राज्ञामृषीणां च हितानि तानि कृतानि पुत्रैरकृतानि पूर्वैः ॥ ५१ ॥

tasmātpramāṇaṃ na vayo na kālaḥ kaścitkvacicchraiṣṭhyamupaiti loke |
rājñāmṛṣīṇāṃ ca hitāni tāni kṛtāni putrairakṛtāni pūrvaiḥ || 51 ||

'Therefore it is not age nor years which are the criterion; different persons win pre-eminence in the world at different places; those mighty exploits worthy of kings and sages, when left undone by the ancestors, have been done by the sons.'
