tarhi tānahatvā tava dehayātrāpi na syāditi cet, tatrāha gurūniti | gurūn droṇācāryādīnahatvā paralokaviruddhaṃ guruvadhamakṛtvā ihaloke bhaikṣyaṃ bhikṣānnamapi bhoktuṃ śreya ucitam | vipakṣe tu na kevalaṃ paratra duḥkhaṃ, kintu ihaiva ca narakaduḥkhamanubhaveyamityāha hatveti | gurūn hatvā ihaiva tu rudhireṇa pradigdhān prakarṣeṇa liptānarthakāmātmakān bhogānahaṃ bhuñjīya aśnīyām | yadvā arthakāmāniti gurūṇāṃ viśeṣaṇam | arthatṛṣṇākulatvādete tāvadyuddhānna nivarteran tasmādetadvadhaḥ prasajyetaivetyarthaḥ | tathā ca yudhiṣṭhiraṃ prati bhīṣmeṇoktaṃ
arthasya puruṣo dāso dāsastvartho na kasyacit |

nanu bhīṣmadroṇayoḥ pūjārhatvaṃ gurutvenaiva, evamanyeṣāmapi kṛpādīnāṃ, na ca teṣāṃ gurutvena svīkāraḥ sāmpratamucitaḥ
gurorapyavaliptasya kāryākāryamajānataḥ |
utpathapratipannasya parityāgo vidhīyate || [ṃbh 5.178.24]
iti smṛteḥ | tasmādeṣāṃ yuddhagarveṇāvaliptānāmanyāyarājyagrahaṇena śiṣyadroheṇa ca kāryākāryavivekaśūnyānāmutpathaniṣṭhānāṃ vadha eva śreyānityāśaṅkyāha gurūniti |

ityāśaṅkyāha hatveti | arthalubdhā api te madapekṣayā guravo bhavantyeveti punargurugrahaṇenoktam | tuśabdo'pyarthe īdṛśānapi gurūn hatvā bhogāneva bhuñjīya na tu mokṣaṃ labheya | bhujyanta iti bhogā viṣayāḥ karmaṇi ghañ | te ca bhogā ihaiva na paraloke | ihāpi ca rudhirapradigdhā ivāpayaśovyāptatvenātyantajugupsitā ityarthaḥ | yadehāpyevaṃ tadā paralokaduḥkhaṃ kiyadvarṇanīyamiti bhāvaḥ |

nanvevaṃ te yadi svarājye'sminnāsti jighṛkṣā, tarhi kayā vṛttyā jīviṣyasītyatrāha gurūnahatveti | guruvadhamakṛtvā bhaikṣyaṃ kṣatriyairvigītamapi bhikṣānnamapi bhoktuṃ śreyaḥ | aihikaduryaśolābhe'pi pāratrikamamaṅgalaṃ tu naiva syāditi bhāvaḥ | na caiva guravo'valiptāḥ kāryākāryamajānantaścādhārmikaduryodhanādyanugatāstyājyā eva | yaduktaṃ
gurorapyavaliptasya kāryākāryamajānataḥ |

nanvete bhīṣmādayo guravo'pi yuddhagarvāvalepātchadmanā yuṣmadrājyāpahāraṃ yuṣmaddrohaṃ ca kurvatāṃ duryodhanādīnāṃ saṃsargeṇa kāryākāryavivekavirahācca samprati tyājyā eva
gurorapyavaliptasya kāryākāryamajānataḥ |

iti cettatrāha mahānubhāvāniti | mahān sarvotkṛṣṭo'nubhāvo vedādhyayanabrahmacaryādihetukaḥ prabhāvo yeṣāṃ tān | kālakāmādayo'pi yadvaśyāsteṣāṃ taddoṣasambandho neti bhāvaḥ |
nanu
arthasya puruṣo dāso dāsastvartho na kasyacit |
iti satyaṃ mahārāja baddho'smyarthena kauravaiḥ || [ṃBh 6.41.36]
iti bhīṣmokterarthalobhena vikrītātmanāṃ teṣāṃ kuto mahānubhāvatā ? tato yuddhe hantavyāste iti cettatrāha hatvārthakāmāniti | arthakāmānapi gurūn hatvāhamihaiva loke bhogān bhuñjīya, na tu paraloke | tāṃśca rudhirapradigdhān tadrudhiramiśrāneva, na tu śuddhān bhuñjīya taddhiṃsayā tallābhāt | tathā ca yuddhagarvāvalepādimattve'pi teṣāṃ madgurutvamastyeveti punargurugrahaṇena sūcyate ||5||
