The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 3.9

ततः प्रकीर्णोज्ज्वलपुष्पजालं विषक्तमाल्यं प्रचलत्पताकम् ।
मार्गं प्रपेदे सदृशानुयात्रश्चन्द्रः सनक्षत्र इवान्तरीक्षम् ॥ ९ ॥

tataḥ prakīrṇojjvalapuṣpajālaṃ viṣaktamālyaṃ pracalatpatākam |
mārgaṃ prapede sadṛśānuyātraścandraḥ sanakṣatra ivāntarīkṣam || 9 ||

With a worthy retinue he entered the road which was strewn with heaps of gleaming flowers, with garlands suspended and banners waving, like the moon with its asterism entering the sky.
