by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 48.11

atha rāhulasya idam abravīt pi maitrottareṇa madanena nibaddhacittā |
deva śṛṇohi yatha adya mayāpi dṛṣṭaṃ supinaṃ manoramaṃ phalaṃ ca me tad bhaveyāt || 11 ||

Then Rahula’s mother, with her heart bound in a passion that was greater than friendship, said, “My lord, hear how I, too, saw a charming vision to-day, and may its realisation also be so to me. (11)
