The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.74.32

भगीरथ उवाच ।
शरीरेऽस्मिंश्चिरारूढो गिरौ तरुरिव स्वके ।
अहंभावो महाभाग वद मे त्यज्यते कथम् ॥ ३२ ॥

bhagīratha uvāca |
śarīre'smiṃścirārūḍho girau taruriva svake |
ahaṃbhāvo mahābhāga vada me tyajyate katham || 32 ||

Bhagiratha responded said:—Tell me, O reverend sir, how is it possible for any body to get rid of his egoism, which is deep rooted in our constitution, and has grown as big with our bodies as lofty trees on mountain tops.
