Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. आवां भवति वत्स्यावः कंचित्कालं हिताय ते ।
यथावत्पृथिवीपाल आवयोः प्रगुणीभव ।
तथेति कृत्वा तौ राजा सत्कृत्योपचचार ह ॥ १० ॥

āvāṃ bhavati vatsyāvaḥ kaṃcitkālaṃ hitāya te |
yathāvatpṛthivīpāla āvayoḥ praguṇībhava |
