वदन-कमल-निर्यद्यस्य पीयूषम् आद्यं
पिबति जन-वरो ऽयं पातु सो ऽयं गिरं मे
बदर-वन-विहारः सत्यवत्याः कुमारः
प्रणत-दुरित-हारः सार्ङ्ग-धन्व्-अवतारः
vadana-kamala-niryadyasya pīyūṣam ādyaṃ
pibati jana-varo 'yaṃ pātu so 'yaṃ giraṃ me
badara-vana-vihāraḥ satyavatyāḥ kumāraḥ
praṇata-durita-hāraḥ sārṅga-dhanv-avatāraḥ
vadana—face; kamala—lotus; niryadyasya—splendid; pīyūṣam—nectar; ādyam—transcendental; pibati—drink; jana-varaḥ—the best of men; ayam—he; pātu—may protect; saḥ ayam—he; giram—the words; me—of me; badara-vana—in the forest Badarikāśrama; vihāraḥ—enjoys pastimes; satyavatyāḥ—of Satyavatī; kumāraḥ—the son; praṇata—of surrendered souls; durita—troubles; hāraḥ—removing; sārṅga-dhanu—of Lord Kṛṣṇa, who carries the Śārṅga bow; avatāraḥ—an incarnation.
English translation of verse 1.1.3:
May Satyavatī's son Vyāsa, who enjoys pastimes at Badarikāsrama, who is the best of men, who drinks the transcendental nectar of the glory of Lord Kṛṣṇa's lotus face, and who is an incarnation of the Lord who carries the Śārṅga bow, protect my words.
