This Sanskrit edition of the Bhagavatapurana. It is one of the traditional eighteen Mahapuranas presented as an encyclopedia of ancient Indian history and knowledge. The extant edition contains 12 books originally written in 18,000 Sanskrit verses

ब्रूमोऽद्य ते किमधिकं महमानमेवं ।
ब्रह्मात्मकस्य भुवि भागवताभिधस्य ।
यत्संश्रयात् निगदिते लभते सुवक्ता ।
श्रोतापि कृष्णसमतामलमन्यधर्मैः ॥ ७४ ॥

brūmo'dya te kimadhikaṃ mahamānamevaṃ |
brahmātmakasya bhuvi bhāgavatābhidhasya |
yatsaṃśrayāt nigadite labhate suvaktā |
