The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. nityasya saptavidhāgnervikārāḥ praugādyākṛtiviśeṣeṇa guṇena vikṛtāḥ / kutaḥ? guṇaśāstratvāt / guṇaṃ śāsti vidadhātīti guṇaśāstram / "praugacitaṃ cinvīta' iti vakṣyamāṇaṃ vākyaṃ praugasyāgneśvayanamanūdya tatra bhātṛvyāpanodanaphalārthaṃ praugādyākṛtiviśeṣaṃ guṇaṃ vidhatte / tasmātkāmyāḥ praugādayaḥ / godohanādivannityasyāgnerguṇavikārāḥ na nityāḥ naiva prakṛtaya iti /

"sandhyantarāle pañcamabhāgīyāḥsapādāḥ' ityasyāparā vyākhyāpādaśabdena prastutā evāṇūkāpādā gṛhyante / prastutāś ca pādā aṣṭasaṃkhyā iti tathaiveha grāhyāḥ / tatraivamupadhānam -- prathame prastāre sandhyantarāle pārśvayostriṃśadaṅgulaṃ pariśiṣya madhyame pañcatriṃśatpañcamabhāgīyāḥ, pariśiṣṭayostriṃśadaṅgulayoḥ paścātpurastācca dvedve pañcadaśāṅgule udīcyau, madhye tasrastisro'ṇūkāḥ, pañcamībhiḥ pūrayitumaśakyatvātpucchasya pārśvayoḥ purataḥṣaṭṣaṭpañcadaśāṅgulāḥ / pucchaśeṣe trayodaśāṇūkāḥ, evaṃ kṛte aṣṭonadviśataṃ bhavati / pucchamadhye'ṇūkāmekāmuddhṛtya daśāṅgulā navopadadhyāt / ātmani dvitīye madhye mantropadhānasaukaryārtham / evaṃ dviśataḥ prastāraḥ / aparasmin pucchavarjaṃ yathāsūtramevātmani prācyo daśa rītyaḥ / tatra dakṣiṇasyāṃ madhye pañcamīṃ nidhāya tataḥ prākpaścācca dvedve prādeśamāyau / evamuttarasyāṃ pucchasyāparārdhe pārśvayormadhye ca tisrastisraḥṣaḍbhāgīyāḥ prācyaḥ, pucchaśeṣe dvādaśāṇūkāḥ / ye tu ṣaḍbhāgīyā necchanti teṣāmapi pucchavarjamevamevopadhānam / tatra pucche prādeśamupadhāyetyasya prādeśeṣṭakāmupadhāyetyevaṃ varṇayanti / anyathā bhedaprasaṅgāt / prādeśāścaturbhāgīyābhiḥsaha na śerata iti sāmarthyāt pañcamabhāgīyānāmākṣepaḥ / tatraivamupadhānam -- pucchasyapūrvārdhe pārśvayoścatasraḥ pañcadaśāhgulāḥ / madhye ṣaḍaṇūkāḥ / aparārdhe pañcadaśa pañcamyaḥ / pucchāgre madhyamā abhito dve uddhṛtyāṣṭau prādeśeṣṭakā upadheyāḥ / evamaṣṭonadviśataṃ bhavati / tataḥ pūrvavadekāṃ catuthīṃ pañcamīṃ voddhṛtya daśāṅgulā vāṣṭāṅgulā vopadadhyāt / dviśataḥ prastāraḥ / dvitīye prastāre pucche ṣoḍaśāṇūkāḥ, ātmanyuttarasyāṃ rītyāṃ catasṛbhyaḥ pañcamībhyaḥ prāktisro'ṣṭāhgulā udīcyaḥ tata ekā pañcamī / tatastisro'ṣṭāṅgulāḥ / tatastisraḥ pañcamyaḥ / dakṣiṇārītiḥ pūrvavadeva / dviśataḥ prastāraḥ / evaṃ sāratniprādeśasyopadhānamuktamācāryeṇa / tadrahitasyocyate -- pakṣāgrayostisrastisro'ṇūkāḥ / tāsāṃ pasvātpurastācca dvedve pañcadaśāṅgule / evamnyayorapyātmānaṃ pradeśenopetāḥ pārśvayoḥ ṣaṭṣaṭ prādeśāḥ / pakṣaśeṣe pañcamyaḥ / sandhyantarāle catvāriṃśatpañcamabhāgīyā ātmaśeṣaḥ pūrvoktavadeva / pucchasya pūrvārdhe pārśvayoraṣṭau pañcadaśāṅgulāḥ, padhye ṣaḍaṇūkāḥ / aparārdhe ṣaḍbhāgīyābhirudīcyastisro rītayaḥ / tāsu pūrvasyāṃ pārśvayordvedve daśāṅgule / pucchasya pūrvārdhe ṣaḍbhāgīyā aṣṭādaśa / aparārdhe pṛṣṭhayāmabhitaḥ pañcamyākuddhṛtya aṣṭau pādeṣṭakā upadadhyāt / ātmani pūrvarītau madhye pañcamīṃ nidhāyābhitaścatasraḥ pādeṣṭakā upadadhyāt / evaṃ dviśataḥ prastāraḥ / athātrāpi ṣaḍbhāgīyāmanicchatāṃ pucchasya pārśvayoḥ purataḥṣaṭṣaṭ pañcadaśāṅgulāḥ / pucchaśeṣe trayodaśāṇūkāḥ / pakṣāgrayoścatasraścatasro'ṇūkāḥ / śeṣaṃ pūrvoktavadeva / evaṃ kṛte caturaśītiśatamiṣṭakā bhavanti / tatrātmani pṛṣṭhayānte caturthyau pañcamyāvuddhṛtyāṣṭādaśāṅgulā aṣṭāṅgulā vopadadhyāt / dviśataḥ prastāraḥ / anyasmin prastāre pucchāpyaye pañcamabhāgīyā ityādi yathāsūtram / ātmanaḥ pūrvarītiḥ pūrvoktavat / pucchasya pūrvārdhe'ṣṭāvaṇūkāḥ aparārdhe pañcamyāvṛddhṛtyāṣṭaṅgulā upadadhyāt /

dviśataḥ prastāraḥ /
evamupadhānasyānekaprakārā uktāḥ /
tatra yuktataraḥ prakāro vidvadbhirādaraṇīyaḥ /
sarveṣveva prakāreṣu pucchāpyaye pakṣāpyaye anyataratra viśayā iṣṭakā upadhīyanta ityanusandhātavyam //

vyādhikaraṇaḥṣṭhayau / ekavidhaprabhṛtīnāṃ ṣaḍvidhaparyantānāṃ yāḥ karaṇyaḥ tāsāṃ dvādaśena trayodaśeneti samacaturaśrā iṣṭakāḥ kārayet pādeṣṭakāś ca /

tāścaturbāgīyā navamyaś ceti dvividhāḥ /

tatra ślokāḥ --

aṅgulyo viṃśatiśataṃ karaṇyekavidhe bhavet /
dvividhe saptatiśataṃ jñeyaṃ daśatilonitam //
trividhe dve śate cāṣṭau cāṅgulyaṣ,ṭtilonitāḥ /
caturvidhasya karaṇī catvalāriṃśacchatadvayam //
aṣṭaṣaṣṭiḥ pañcavidhe saikādaśatile śate /
ṣaḍvidhe triśatācyājyāḥṣaḍaṅgulyastilāvapi //

ekavidhasya tāvat karaṇyā dvādaśena daśāṅgulenaikaṃ karaṇam / tadardhena pañcāṅgulena dvitīyaṃ pādeṣṭakārūpam / tṛtīyena ca saikādaśatilena tryaṅgulena tṛtīyam / navamītyucyate / evaṃ trayodaśena sāṣṭatilena navāṅgulenaikam / tadardhena tatpādyāḥ / caturaṅgulā saikaviṃśatitilā / tṛtīyena ca navamī tryaṅgulā satilatrayā / evaṃ dvividhādiṣu draṣṭavyam /

vyatyāsaṃaścikīrṣet

tatra prastārayoranuktatvāt dvādaśītrayodaśīnāmeva sāvayavānāṃ prastāreṣu vyatyāsaḥ / dvādaśībhiḥsāvayavabhirekaḥ prastāraḥ trayodaśībhirapara iti / saṃkālitopadhānaṃ tu na bhavatyavacanāt etadatidiṣṭapraugacityasambhavācca / tatra prathame prastāre agnimadhye navadvādaśīnāṃ navamyaścaturaśrīkṛtāḥ / tāḥ paritaḥṣaṣṭiḥ pādyāḥ / tāḥ parito'ṣṭāviṃśatiśataṃ dvādaśyaḥ / uttarāṃsa ekāmuddhṛtya cataslaḥ pādyāḥ / dviśataḥ prastāraḥ / aparasmin trayodaśabhiḥ pracchādite navaṣaṣṭiśatamiṣṭakā bhavanti / agnimadhyasthamuddhatya catasraḥ pādyāḥ / pratikoṇaṃ catasraścatasraḥ pādyāḥ pṛṣṭhayāyāṃ paścātpurastāccaikaikāmuddhṛtya navanava navamyaḥ / dviśataḥ prastāraḥ /

ekavidha rdhvapramāṇaṃ ekavidhādīnāmapi sahasrādisaṃkhyā /
ūrdhvapramāṇaṃ ca jānudaghnādisaptavidhādipadbhavatyeva /
kṣetrāpacaye'pi saṃkhyordhvapramāṇayornāpacaya ityarthaḥ //

kāmyāḥ praugādayaḥ guṇena vikṛtāḥ -- kimuktaṃ bhavati? guṇasiddhirnāgneḥ /

kutaḥ? guṇaśāsratvāt /
śāstīti śāsram /
guṇo'tra śiṣyate nāgniḥ /
tasmādguṇaśāstratvāt godohanādiva, dguṇaphalānyotāni //
