The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

पीतं ह्यनेनापि पयः शिशुत्वे कालेन भूयः परिमृष्टमुर्व्याम् ।
क्रमेण भूत्वा च युवा वपुष्मान् क्रमेण तेनैव जरामुपेतः ॥ ३१ ॥
pītaṃ hyanenāpi payaḥ śiśutve kālena bhūyaḥ parimṛṣṭamurvyām |
krameṇa bhūtvā ca yuvā vapuṣmān krameṇa tenaiva jarāmupetaḥ || 31 ||
'He too once drank milk in his childhood, and in course of time he learned to grope on the ground; having step by step become a vigorous youth, he has step by step in the same way reached old age.'
