by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.28

yasyāsi nāmaṃ tada kāśyapo pi jāmbūnadasamanibhavigrahasya |
bhuṃjitva bhaktaṃ mama vidu satvasāraḥ vrajet svayaṃbhū drumavaraṃ pādapendraṃ || 28 ||

“He, too, who was then named Kashyapa, whose body was like Jambunada gold, the wise one, the essence of being, self-dependent, went on to the noble tree, the monarch of all that grows, after he had eaten my food. (28)
