This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 17.30

एतं श्रुत्वा वचनं राजा शुद्धोदनो सुप्रीतमनो ।
आलपति साभिलाषं परिवारवरं पृथिविपालो ॥ ३० ॥

etaṃ śrutvā vacanaṃ rājā śuddhodano suprītamano |
ālapati sābhilāṣaṃ parivāravaraṃ pṛthivipālo || 30 ||

When he had heard these words, King Shuddhodana, the guardian of earth, graciously and out of tender feeling for his queen, thus addressed his suite:— (30)
