Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. दत्तचक्षुरिवाकाशे पश्यामि विमृशामि च ।
प्रज्ञानवचनाद्योऽयमुपदेशो हि मे कृतः ।
बाढमेवं करिष्यामि यथा मां भाषते भवान् ॥ ५ ॥

dattacakṣurivākāśe paśyāmi vimṛśāmi ca |
prajñānavacanādyo'yamupadeśo hi me kṛtaḥ |
bāḍhamevaṃ kariṣyāmi yathā māṃ bhāṣate bhavān || 5 ||
