Cidgaganacandrika 213 [Status of Jiva in Shrishti and Sthiti], English comparative study extracted from the two available commentaries—the Divyacakorika and the Kramaprakashika. The Cidgagana-candrika is an important Tantric work belonging to the Krama system of Kashmir Shaivism. Written by Kalidasa (Shrivatsa) in 312 Sanskrit verses, it deals with the knowledge regarding both the Macrocosmic and Microcosmic phenomena

दृष्टिरूपमिदमम्ब भावितं स्थेमरूपकरणांशुभिर्जगत् ।
स्यादनाख्यमनिकेतयुक्तितस्तत्पुनर्लयमनेन चात्मना ॥ २१३ ॥

dṛṣṭirūpamidamamba bhāvitaṃ sthemarūpakaraṇāṃśubhirjagat |
syādanākhyamaniketayuktitastatpunarlayamanena cātmanā || 213 ||

Prior to manifestation, the Enjoyer and the objects of Enjoyment were in concealed form in the womb of Vimarśaśakti in a stable and painless state. In manifestation, however, Vimarśa shines like Sūrya, who illumines Agni and Soma, with his rays thus assuming all forms for enjoyment. Śakti, on manifestation[1] assumes from of Parāvāc. In the Varṇas, some are Saura (svaras); some are Āgneya:(Ūṣmāṇa:); some are Soumya:(Sparśa “ka” to “ma”).

From these sets, begin the Ṣaḍadhvāsa-kāra and ha-kāra create Tattva, Kalā, Bhuvana-Vācyādhvās; Varṇa, Pada, Mantra—the Vācakādhvās are the result of all Varṇas and Svaras. Thus they represent both Prakāśa and Vimarśa effects. Sūrya, Soma and Agni are the propagators in Sṛṣṭi. They await the intension of Vimarśa in doing so. In Sākta monism, the projection of the inner concept as outside universe is Sṛṣṭi. The inner absorption of the manifestation into Śakti’s heart is Saṃhāra. These are like opening and closing of the eyelids for Citśakti.
