Cidgaganacandrika 9 [Meditation on the line of Spiritual preceptors], English comparative study extracted from the two available commentaries—the Divyacakorika and the Kramaprakashika. The Cidgagana-candrika is an important Tantric work belonging to the Krama system of Kashmir Shaivism. Written by Kalidasa (Shrivatsa) in 312 Sanskrit verses, it deals with the knowledge regarding both the Macrocosmic and Microcosmic phenomena

विश्वसद्मनि सदात्मनीश्वरे पूरणात् पुरुषतामुपेयुषि ।
ये मनः प्रणिदधुर्महर्षयस्तान् पतञ्जलिमुखानुपास्महे ॥ ९ ॥

viśvasadmani sadātmanīśvare pūraṇāt puruṣatāmupeyuṣi |
ye manaḥ praṇidadhurmaharṣayastān patañjalimukhānupāsmahe || 9 ||

Meditation on the line of Spiritual preceptors The Siddhā recollects the lineage of Ṛṣis starting with Patanjali, with respectful devotion, who mentally realized themselves to be in union with kāleśvara as Śabda and Artha or both, in whom the creation lives or who in turn live in creation. He is known as Puruṣa because of his all pervading nature, the dispeller of the three kinds of Malas or pollutions of the mind, word and body.[1]

Salutations to Guruparamparā from Patañjali

Śiva, who, in and through the process of creation in his dual aspects (immanent and transcendental) is complete in existence and vibration; He being the very form of Śabda and Artha, because of his omnipresence, is called Īśvara (Puruṣa); Mind, Speech and Body are cleansed by Yoga, Pada and Vaidhya Gurus viz., Patanjali[2], Panini and Dhanvantari respectively. They guide us in treading the suitable path for attainment of oneness with this Puruṣa.

This line of gurus suggestively refers to the Paraugha, Divyaugha, Siddhaugha and Mānavaugha gurus in the Śakti upāsana. This emanation of guru’s lineage is the Anugraha act of Śiva, for dispelling the three malas of the aspirant in the path of liberation.
