This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 89.41

पटहानि च वीणायो वादेन्ति वरस्वरा प्रमुंचंति ।
आहन्यन्ति मृदंगा न चिरं निर्यास्यति कुमारो ॥ ४१ ॥

paṭahāni ca vīṇāyo vādenti varasvarā pramuṃcaṃti |
āhanyanti mṛdaṃgā na ciraṃ niryāsyati kumāro || 41 ||

The drum is beaten, the lutes are played, giving forth their sweet notes. Tabours are beaten, and ere long the young prince will come out. (41)
