Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 18.32

रागं च मोहं च प्रहाय दोषं मानं च म्रक्षं तसिणां च जालिनीं ।
विराजसे दोषविमुक्तमानसो यथा शशी पूर्ण इव नभे शुभे ॥ ३२ ॥

rāgaṃ ca mohaṃ ca prahāya doṣaṃ mānaṃ ca mrakṣaṃ tasiṇāṃ ca jālinīṃ |
virājase doṣavimuktamānaso yathā śaśī pūrṇa iva nabhe śubhe || 32 ||

Having abjured passion, folly and vice, conceit, hypocrisy and ensnaring lust, thou, with thy mind delivered from sin, shinest forth like the full moon in the clear sky. (32)
