The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.
Verse 7.37.49
इहेच्छानिच्छते ज्ञस्य शाम्यतां यदलं समे ।
तथापि श्रेयसे मन्ये नन्वनिच्छोदयं स्फुटम् ॥ ४९ ॥
ihecchānicchate jñasya śāmyatāṃ yadalaṃ same |
tathāpi śreyase manye nanvanicchodayaṃ sphuṭam || 49 ||
Here our wish and effort as well as our want of both, are all alike in the opinion of the learned (who maintain the doctrine of irrevocable fate); but in my opinion it is better to remain in cool indifference.
