Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. प्रायाचत नृपः शुल्कं भगवन्तं विभावसुम् ।
नित्यं सांनिध्यमिह ते चित्रभानो भवेदिति ।
तमाह भगवानग्निरेवमस्त्विति पार्थिवम् ॥ ३१ ॥

prāyācata nṛpaḥ śulkaṃ bhagavantaṃ vibhāvasum |
nityaṃ sāṃnidhyamiha te citrabhāno bhavediti |
tamāha bhagavānagnirevamastviti pārthivam || 31 ||
