Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

न चेत्परित्रास्य इमाञ्जनान्भयाद्द्विषद्भिरेवं बलिभिः प्रपीडितान् ।
तथाभविष्यद्द्विषतां प्रमोदनं यथा हतेष्वेष्विह नोऽरिषु त्वया ॥ २४ ॥

na cetparitrāsya imāñjanānbhayāddviṣadbhirevaṃ balibhiḥ prapīḍitān |
tathābhaviṣyaddviṣatāṃ pramodanaṃ yathā hateṣveṣviha no'riṣu tvayā || 24 ||
