This Sanskrit edition of the Bhagavatapurana. It is one of the traditional eighteen Mahapuranas presented as an encyclopedia of ancient Indian history and knowledge. The extant edition contains 12 books originally written in 18,000 Sanskrit verses

अण्डेषु पेशिषु तरुष्वविनिश्चितेषु ।
प्राणो हि जीवमुपधावति तत्र तत्र ।
सन्ने यदिन्द्रियगणेऽहमि च प्रसुप्ते ।
कूटस्थ आशयमृते तदनुस्मृतिर्नः ॥ ३९ ॥

prāṇo hi jīvamupadhāvati tatra tatra |
sanne yadindriyagaṇe'hami ca prasupte |
