The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.90.22

प्राप्य जिह्वाणुभिः सङ्गमनुभूतिः कृतोत्तमा ।
यामात्मनो न देहस्य मन्ये ज्ञानस्य केवलम् ॥ २२ ॥

prāpya jihvāṇubhiḥ saṅgamanubhūtiḥ kṛtottamā |
yāmātmano na dehasya manye jñānasya kevalam || 22 ||

This element resides in the tongue; which perceives the flavour of things from their particles, and conveys the sense to the mind. Hence I ween the feeling of taste relates to the soul and its perception, and not to the sensibility of the body.
