The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.43.15

गुरुश्चेदुद्धरत्यज्ञमात्मीयात्पौरुषादृते ।
उष्ट्रं दान्तं बलीवर्दं तत्कस्मान्नोद्धरत्यसौ ॥ १५ ॥

guruśceduddharatyajñamātmīyātpauruṣādṛte |
uṣṭraṃ dāntaṃ balīvardaṃ tatkasmānnoddharatyasau || 15 ||

It requires no exertion or manly effort to see the figure of Vishnu;but the mere sight of the image is not sufficient to save you, or else the birds and beasts would all be saved by looking at it.
