The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

आदावेव हि यन्नास्ति कारणासंभवात्स्वयम् ।
वर्तमानेऽपि तन्नास्ति नाशः स्यात्तत्र कीदृशः ॥ १३ ॥

ādāveva hi yannāsti kāraṇāsaṃbhavātsvayam |
vartamāne'pi tannāsti nāśaḥ syāttatra kīdṛśaḥ || 13 ||

That which did not exist at first owing to its want of a cause, has neither its existence at present, nor can it be destroyed.
