Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. समास्थाय मतिं वीरो बीभत्सुः शत्रुतापनः ।
कृपां चक्रे रथश्रेष्ठो भारद्वाजसुतं प्रति ॥ १४ ॥

samāsthāya matiṃ vīro bībhatsuḥ śatrutāpanaḥ |
kṛpāṃ cakre rathaśreṣṭho bhāradvājasutaṃ prati || 14 ||
