Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. सन्तः प्रतिष्ठा हि सुखच्युतानां सतां सदैवामरराजकल्प ।
ते संगताः स्थावरजङ्गमेशाः प्रतिष्ठितस्त्वं सदृशेषु सत्सु ॥ १२ ॥

santaḥ pratiṣṭhā hi sukhacyutānāṃ satāṃ sadaivāmararājakalpa |
te saṃgatāḥ sthāvarajaṅgameśāḥ pratiṣṭhitastvaṃ sadṛśeṣu satsu || 12 ||
