Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ततः परमधीरात्मा त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतः ।
भास्करं समुदीक्षन्स प्राङ्मुखो वाग्यतोऽगमत् ।
शब्देनाकाशमखिलं पूरयन्निव सर्वतः ॥ १७ ॥

tataḥ paramadhīrātmā triṣu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ |
bhāskaraṃ samudīkṣansa prāṅmukho vāgyato'gamat |
śabdenākāśamakhilaṃ pūrayanniva sarvataḥ || 17 ||
