Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. शकुनिरुवाच ।
न भर्तुः शासनं वीरा रणे कुर्वन्त्यमर्षिताः ।
अलं क्रोद्धुं तथैतेषां नायं काल उपेक्षितुम् ॥ २२ ॥

śakuniruvāca |
na bhartuḥ śāsanaṃ vīrā raṇe kurvantyamarṣitāḥ |
alaṃ kroddhuṃ tathaiteṣāṃ nāyaṃ kāla upekṣitum || 22 ||
