The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Grihya-sutra with the commentaries of Haradatta (called the Anakula-vritti) and Sudarshana (called the Grihyatatparyadarshana-vyakhya). The Apastamba Grihyasutra is a short treatise on Vedic rituals which, together with the Hiranyakeshin-grihya-sutra, belongs to the Taittiriya School of the Black Yajur-Veda. uktāḥ pākayajñaparibhāṣāḥ atha teṣāṃ sādhāraṇatantraṃ vakṣyate-agnimidhveti /
tadagnerupasamādhānamityucyate /
etacca karmāṅgam /
kiṃ punaratrāgniḥ? patnīsambandheṣvaupāsanam /
anya laukikaḥ kecijjātakarmaprabhṛti"parigrahamagnericchanti /
anye punaḥ upanayanaprabhṛti /
apare"yatrāntyāṃ samidhamādadhyāt taṃ vāparigṛhṇīyā"diti /
yatra tu psiddhau'gnirnāsti tatra śrautriyāgārādāharaṇaṃ mathanaṃ /
"yatra kvacīgni"mityayaṃ tu deśasaṃskāraḥ sarvatra bhavati yadi syādasskṛto deśaḥ /
agnimidhveti prakṛte punaragnigrahaṇaṃ yeṣu tantraṃ na pravartate tatrāpi paristaraṇaṃ yathā syāditi-agniṃ-paristṛṇāti sarvaveti /
upasamādhānaṃ tu tatrārthasiddham /

Sudarśana’s Gṛhyatātparyadarśana-vyākhyā (sūtra 1.13)

atra ca agnipadārthaviśeṣapratipattyartha smārteṣvagnirnirūpyate /
tatra yājñavalkyavacanam /

karma smārta vivāgāgnau kurvīta pratyahaṃ gṛhī /

asyārtha---gṛhī gṛhasthaḥ sapatnīkaḥ smārta karma vivāgāgnau
aupāsanāgnau kūrvīta /
yasya karmaṇāḥ prayoge saṃkalpāvaghātānvārambhadravyatyāgānumatyādipadārthadvārā patnyāssahatvaṃ tat karma svaupāsane kurvīta ityetat /
atha yasya agnisādhyasya karmaṇaḥ phalaṃ sākṣāt karmāntarapraṇālyā jāyāpatigāmyanyataragāmi bhavati tatkarma gṛhī svaupāsane kuryāt,'kurvīta'ityātmanepadaśravaṇāditi /

evaṃ ca smārtāni pākayajñasīmantādīni aupāsanāgnau kartavyāni /
gṛhapraveśo'pi tatkarmajanyavāstuśānteḥ jāyāpatyāyurādyarthatvādaupāsana eva /
tathā pitrādermātāmahādeśca sapiṇḍīkaraṇamapyaupāsane /
sapiṇḍīkaraṇaphalasya pretatvanivṛttyā pitṛtvaprāptirūpasyābhyudayikamāsiśrāddhādau sampradānārthatvāt, tatphalasya ca jāyāpatigāmitvāditi /

ata eva sapiṇḍīkaraṇaṃ sarvairapi putrairna kartavyam, ekenāpi kṛtputṛtayā sampradānatvasiddheḥ /
ato yatra patnyāssahatvaṃ kriyāphalaṃ jāyāpatigāmi tatkarma (1-ṭa.ṭha-svaipāsane.) aupāsana eva /
yadi tu putro'nagniranupanītādiḥ saṃvatsare pūrṇe'vaśyaṃ kartavyatvāt sapiṇḍīkaraṇaṃ karoti, tadā śrotriyāgārādāhṛte'gnau;vodhāyanena'atha śrotriyāgārādeva tamaupāsanam'(bau.gṛ.6-2) ityaupāsanasaṃstavāt, ācārācca /

anupanūto'pi putraśśrāddhādhikāryeva, arhatyanupanīto'pi vināpyagniṃ vinā'padam //

iti vacanāt,''na vabrahmābhivyāhārayodanyatra svadhāninayanāt'(gau.dha.2-5) iti gautamavacanasthasvadhāśabdasya sakalīrdhvadaihikapradarśanārthatvācca /

bhrātā bhrātṛputro sapiṇḍaśśaṣya eva /

sapiṇḍīkaraṇaṃ kṛtvā kuryādabhyudayaṃ tataḥ //


iti vacanāt yadā bhrātṛputrādiḥ karoti tadā yathoktasahatvaphalabhāgitvayorabhāvāt śrotriyāgarādāhṛtāgnāveva //


anye tu-bhrātrādigatapitṛtvaprāptirapi putragatapūtatvādiphalavat patigāmi phalamityaupāsane;tacchintyam //


tathā jātakarmacaulopākaraṇasamāpanagodānasamāvartanānyapi /
tathomanayanamapi /
ācāryakaraṇasidhdyartha mupanayanamiti mate'pi nācāryasyaupāsane /
tasya nityadhāryatvāt'tryahametamāgniṃ dhārayanti'(āpa.gṛ.11-19) iti sūtravirodhāt /
vivāhopyasmin, nirmanthye , asabhbhavādvivāhajanyaupāsanasya /
sambhave'pi prathamaupāsanasya, na tasmin dvitīyādivivāhaḥ ;'yāṃ kāmayeta rāṣṭramasyai prajā ,syāditi tasyā aupāsane'iti pratiṇāryamaupāsanabhedāvagamāt, baudhāyanīye agnidvayasaṃsargavidhānāt, āṭārāṭṭa /
karmārthasyaupāsanasya saṃskṛte deśe, anupasamāhitasyānyasya vāgneḥ,'yatra kva ṭāgnim'(āpa.dha.2-1-13.) iti dharmaśāstroktavidhinā agnipratiṣṭhāpanaṃ kartavyam //


kecit- idaṃ nāgnyaṅgaṃ, karmāṅgameveti pratikarma kāryam, ukhāyāṃ cāgnerdhāraṇamiti //


atha sūtraṃ vyākhyāyate /
agnimiddhvā indhītetyarthaḥ /
yadyapyarthaprāptamagnerindhanaṃ tathāpyetadvacanāt iddhamapi punarindhīta /
atra vidhyarthe liṅgādaugrāhye ktvāgrahaṇamindhanasya paristaraṇapūrvakālatāniyamārtham /
tena indhanānantaraṃ paristaraṇameva kārya, na tu tayordhye'vaśyakāryamapi mūtranirasanādi karmārthasaṃbhāropakalpanaṃ ca //


nanvekasmin sūtre indhanaparistaraṇayorvidhāne vākyabhedassyāt;satyam, na tu sūtre vākyabhedo doṣaḥ ;sūcanāt sūtramiti mirvacanāt /

ityameva vyākhyānaṃ prayojanaṃ ca sarvatra tkāgrahaṇeṣu /
prāgagrairdarbhairagniṃ paristṛṇāti /
sarvāsu dikṣu prāgagraiḥ kuśairagniṃ paristṛṇāti //12//
atha prāgagrairudaggraiśca darbhairagniṃ paristṛṇāti /
dakṣiṇata uttaraśca prāgagraiḥ, paścāt purastāccodagagraiḥ ,'udagagrāḥ paścātpurastācca'(āpa.śrau.2-14-15) iti śraute darśanāt /
etān kuśān dakṣiṇānuttarān karoti , uttarāścādharān;baudhāyanabharadvājagṛhyābhyā muktatvāt /
dakṣiṇataḥ pakṣa upariṣṭādbhavatyadhasyāduttaraḥ'iti /
atra'agnimiddhvā'iti prakṛte'pyagnau,'agnim'iti punarvacanaṃ niyamārtham-agnimeva paristṛṇāti nānyadaṅgapīti /
tena uttareṇa pūrveṇa nihitamudakaṃ bahireva bhavati //


kecit-itantrakeṣvapi karmasvāgniḥ paristīrya eveti niyamārthamiti //13//
