by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.89

सो अवच तहिं खु नेष्यं तं देशं यत्र सो ऋषिकुमारो ।
अप्य् एव नाम जीवे युवा स निहतो मृगविषेहि ॥ ८९ ॥

so avaca tahiṃ khu neṣyaṃ taṃ deśaṃ yatra so ṛṣikumāro |

He replied, “I will lead you to the place where the young seer lies. For surely young was he of life when he was laid low by the poison.” (89)
