This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 13.8

यत् कार्यं नरनागेन बुद्धकर्म सुदुःकरं ।
तत् सर्वं परिपूरेति एषा बुद्धान धर्मता ॥ ८ ॥

yat kāryaṃ naranāgena buddhakarma suduḥkaraṃ |
tat sarvaṃ paripūreti eṣā buddhāna dharmatā || 8 ||

It is the very nature of the Buddhas to achieve the whole difficult task of a Buddha that is set the heroic men. (8)
