223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.148.23

अथाकारादि यन्नाम कल्प्यते कारणं विदः ।
तदकारणकं सर्गः स्यादनन्यन्न वै चितेः ॥ २३ ॥

athākārādi yannāma kalpyate kāraṇaṃ vidaḥ |
tadakāraṇakaṃ sargaḥ syādananyanna vai citeḥ || 23 ||

It is the manner of the learned, to impute the cause of the impressions in our consciousness, to external appearances of this thing or that (or ghata patadi &c.); but relying on the doctrine of the causelessness of external objects (or the objective), they prove to be no other than mere imaginations of the subjective mind.
