The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

यथा च परमात्मत्वं स्थानं यच्चास्य तद्वद ॥ १ ॥

mune jīvasya yadrūpamākṛtigrahaṇaṃ tathā |
yathā ca paramātmatvaṃ sthānaṃ yaccāsya tadvada || 1 ||

Rama said:—Tell me sir, regarding the nature of the living soul, and the manner of its assuming its different forms; and tell me also its original form, and those which it takes at different times and places.
