223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.91.92

देवो नासौ सुरो रक्षो यक्षः किं किन्नरो जनः ।
आत्मैवाद्यविलासिन्या जगन्नाट्यं प्रनृत्यति ॥ ९२ ॥

devo nāsau suro rakṣo yakṣaḥ kiṃ kinnaro janaḥ |
ātmaivādyavilāsinyā jagannāṭyaṃ pranṛtyati || 92 ||

The soul is no god or demigod, nor either a Yaksha nor Raksha, nor even a Nara—man or Kinnara—manikin; it is by reason of its original delusion—maya, that it plays the part of a player on the stage of the world.
