The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

तत्रापश्यद्धनं श्यामं पीनं श्वपचपेटकम् ।
गायन्मृदु वसन्तोत्थं कोकिलानामिव व्रजम् ॥ ८ ॥

tatrāpaśyaddhanaṃ śyāmaṃ pīnaṃ śvapacapeṭakam |
gāyanmṛdu vasantotthaṃ kokilānāmiva vrajam || 8 ||

He saw there a band of chandalas of black complexions and big bodies, singing like melodious cuckoos the approach of the vernal season.
