Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. दुर्विनीताः श्रियं प्राप्य विद्यामैश्वर्यमेव च ।
तिष्ठन्ति न चिरं भद्रे यथाहं मदगर्वितः ॥ १७ ॥

durvinītāḥ śriyaṃ prāpya vidyāmaiśvaryameva ca |
tiṣṭhanti na ciraṃ bhadre yathāhaṃ madagarvitaḥ || 17 ||
