Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. एवं ते वर्तमानस्य लोके कीर्तिर्भविष्यति ।
धर्मश्च सुमहांस्तात तप्तं स्याच्च तपश्चिरात् ॥ ४३ ॥

evaṃ te vartamānasya loke kīrtirbhaviṣyati |
dharmaśca sumahāṃstāta taptaṃ syācca tapaścirāt || 43 ||
