Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. कृत्वा हि सुमहत्कर्म हत्वा भीष्ममुखान्कुरून् ।
जयः प्राप्तो यशश्चाग्र्यं वैरं च प्रतियातितम् ।
तदेवं विजयः प्राप्तः पुनः संशयितः कृतः ॥ १० ॥
