Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. स तथा संवृतो भीमः प्रहसन्निव भारत ।
उदयच्छद्गदां तेभ्यो घोरां तां सिंहवन्नदन् ।
अवासृजच्च वेगेन तेषु तान्प्रमथद्बली ॥ ४ ॥

sa tathā saṃvṛto bhīmaḥ prahasanniva bhārata |
udayacchadgadāṃ tebhyo ghorāṃ tāṃ siṃhavannadan |
avāsṛjacca vegena teṣu tānpramathadbalī || 4 ||
