The Water Garden (layout plan)—Built on a higher level, this garden displays a simple design. A noteworthy feature is that the symmetry of the garden plan characteristic of other sections of the water garden is not seen here. There are two ponds, one octagonal on the left and on the opposite side an 'L' shaped one. The octagonal pond near the citadel wall separating the boulder garden and the water garden is linked to a boulder. The drip-ledge on the boulder wall suggests that there had been a lean-to-roof inclined towards the pond.

These photos are taken at the Sigiriya rock in Sri Lanka. This archaeological important site dates to the 2nd century BC when it functioned as a monastery. In the fifth century, King Kassapa I transferred the administrative centre from Anuradhapura to Sigiriya in order to  rule from there. The on-site museum displays various artifacts and paintings found at the Sigiriya rock.
